View Full Version : Door corner repair

I bought my 99 GA used and in good condition, but there is a little bit of rust on the body where all body rust seems to start...the lower door corners. It's not bad at all right now, but I was wondering what I can do short of bringing it to a body repair shop to remove it and stop it from going any farther. I don't want to have to get new door panels yet!

Once the rust has started, you really should remove it. It'll just spread.
Doors tend to rust from the inside out. So try to find where/how the moisture is getting in. Most likely it'll be from the rubber on the outside of the window. After a number of years, the outside rubber (sometimes called a "cat wisker") becomes dried out and cracks. If this is the case, replace it. Otherwise, your door will just continue to rust.
After taking care of the rust, you can try getting the inside of the door sprayed with rust proofing or oil sprayed. But spraying anything in your doors might mess up your speakers.
