Just womdering i was in the junk yard and came across all grand ams with older bodystyles. I didnt think of it til now, does anyone know if you can use an older grand ams PCM with the newest grand ams? Like so i can keep my Supercharger Program on one, i have my DHP on another but would like a 3rd so when i get into tuning i dont loose the 2 i own now

You definitely couldn't use it without reprogramming it.
However, I don't know if they are similar enough to even be plugged into a 99+.

Edit: I'm sure I didn't say anything that you didn't already know. I'm so smart. Ah ha.

well all older GA's pretty much used a 3100 or 3300... you sure you want one of those pcms? also the pinouts changed by a bit between the old body style and the "new" body style.

let me konw if you come across any cars with the words HIGH OUTPUT QUAD 4 under the hood... or better yet W41... :)

The answer is... maybe. It depends on if they are OBD2 or not and what part number the pcm is. GM used the same pcm (just with different programs) in many different cars including 97+ grand prixs and 98+ malibu's etc etc. Don't know if the 96-97 grand am used the same one or not. You need the model/part number of the pcm and compare it to your own. If it's the same then you can use it as long as you re-program it.

iirc... diff pinouts

my answer would be no if its a 96 or 97 pcm and yes if its a reprogramed 98-02

that is if my brain is workin right now (probably isnt)

the pcm itself might be the same looking... but for me it's the issue with the pinouts..

You guys aren't getting the right picture here. The pin outs mean nothing. Thats just the position of the wires on your wiring harness. The program in the pcm is what tells the pcm what those wires are supposed to be. A '98 grand prix and a '00 grand am have different wiring harnesses with different pin outs but they use the exact same computer. All you need to do is re-program it. I can take a pcm from a GP, re-program it, and put it in my GA. In fact I've already done it.

maybe I'm wrong... or just seeing things on the honda side of things....

Example for going from OBD2 ecu to OBD1...

engine harness---adaptor harness, that is connected inbetween the ecu and engine harness, for older ecu to be correctly aligned with sensors and wiring from OBD2 engine harness ---- OBD1 ecu

than again we're talking about OBD2 Gm pcm's here. MY BAD SO I DON"T GET THE PICTURE!

OBD2 started in '96 so you could use a pcm older than '99 as long as it's the same model. :)

Id get one of these cause it would only be like 5 bucks instead of looking online for one and paying more. Dont know for sure if they even were still in the grand ams there, but i would have made a trip out there to look around.
