DETROIT — General Motors Corp.(GM) is recalling more than 30,000 Chevrolet Corvettes because of a defect that allows detachable roofs to fly off.

The recall issued this past week affects certain 2005-2006 models with painted roofs. The adhesive between the roof panel and magnesium frame may separate, GM spokesman Alan Adler told The Detroit News.

If there is a complete separation, the hard roof panel may detach from the vehicle and it could strike another vehicle.

"You do not want to hit a 10-pound object at 70 miles per hour," Adler said.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has received 21 complaints from owners of the sports car, but Adler said the problem has not caused any injuries or deaths.

Owners affected by the recall can get a free inspection and repair, if needed, at their local dealership.

I remember that thread. I wasn't aware that this was a wide spread problem among many C6 Vettes.

What percentage of vettes, have painted roofs?
Are alot of them kinda T-tops, or convertable?

this what you get for following the C5 up with a very ugly new design. if you kept some of the same styling cues that made the vette famous, it wouldn't be revolting against you, now would it?

They said removable tops which is wrong...the Z06 is the only car in with the issue because it has a magnesium upper. The article was half written correctly.

I will agree that some things could have been left the same but GM was getting lazy. Like putting in fixed headlamps rather than pop ups they eliminated the atypical one light up the other down issue you have when the motors burn out. IMO I kinda like the new style but that's just me.

Don't listen to ajaxus... he doesn't know what he's talking about. The new car is beautiful and is full of styling elements reminiscent of older corvettes. Problem is many people aren't familiar with ALL the older models. As for the headlights, GM didn't "get lazy". I heard all the reasons for the decision from Phil Hill's own mouth and they were good ones. It certainly does eliminate something thats likely to break and need maintainence, but it also removes extra weight and improves aerodynamics. The decision was made because the direction they want for corvette is to continue to improve and compete with world class sports cars like ferrari and porsche so that was a necessary improvement. Some old 'vettes did have fixed headlights too so it's not a complete departure from tradition. :)

Probably because it isnt Toyota or Honda and GM is riddled with problems and going bankrupt and destroying America and making kids do drugs :horse:

lol That's as funny as some of the TSB's for the GTO's and Caddys.

Actually that's sad, Corvette is the ultimate GM Performance car, my favorite since I was a little kid. ;crap I guess crap happens and not as if something like this is a first.

Not like I am in the market for a Corvette anyway, and if I were, it wouldn't stop me especially since they are fixing the problem, however it would make me rethink driving it with the detachable roof attached. ;)

Heard about it awhile back on another forum, Vette owner's were Complaining about it.
