 I am looking for new rims for my GA. My ideal rims would be the stock GT star chrome rims, but I'm having a hard time finding them. My question is this: How big a rim can I use before having to use backspacers, lift kits and low pro tires??

Thanx,

Katt

...then your answer would be 16"
i think for 17's, 45 series tires are considered "low-pro"

I did look thru the stickies, but din't find what I was looking for...:tongue2: And apparenty some people can't read that I DON'T want to use LOW PROFILE TIRES. LOL. So it looks like I need to stick with 16" rims then...thanx!

Well, you better stick with the 15-inches then.

The stock 16" wheels use 225/50/16" tires.
(4.4" of sidewall, vs 5.1" of sidewall on your 215/60/15" stock tires)

Do you consider 50-series tires low profile ?

Just go with the 18's, I got 40 series tires and their not as bad as I thought they would be. Just dodge pot holes, it's the price you pay for your ride to look good.

Hey Mike, I was told that anything under 45 was a low pro tire, but then I'm a newbie to all of this...now I have to get my front bumper fixed because my son put a dent in the right side with his p.o.s Probe...

If you dont want to upgrade then just leave your stockers on and dont buy rims.

Oh, ok.

To me:
a 50-series profile or lower, is starting to be a "low profile" tire.

from: Tire Rack.com - Tire Size Information (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tiretech/techpage.jsp?techid=46)

Sidewall Aspect Ratio
Typically following the three digits identifying the tire's Section Width in millimeters is a two-digit number that identifies the tire's profile or aspect ratio.

P225/50R16 91S

The 50 indicates that this tire size's sidewall height (from rim to tread) is 50% of its section width. The measurement is the tire's section height, and also referred to as the tire's series, profile or aspect ratio. The higher the number, the taller the sidewall; the lower the number, the lower the sidewall. We know that this tire size's section width is 225mm and that its section height is 50% of 225mm. By converting the 225mm to inches (225 ¿ 25.4 = 8.86") and multiplying it by 50% (.50) we confirm that this tire size results in a tire section height of 4.43"....

Like my Mom's winter tires are not low profile: 205/60/15" lol
(& there is a difference in the ride; from the stock 205/55/16" on the Sunfire GT)

But I do consider 225/50/16", as starting to be a low profile tire.

& that sucks that your son dented your GA ;crap

So it sounds like Katt, is going with 16" wheels.

How about opinions on the tires ?
(I told her to pass on the GoodYear Eagle RS-A tires for obvious reasons.)

She is considering:
GoodYear Eagle F1 GS-D3 summer performance tires (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Eagle+F1+GS-D3&partnum=25YR6F1GSD3&vehicleSearch=false&fromCompare1=yes&place=0) in 225/50/16"

I dont think she needs or would benefit from having a summer performance tire. But if thats what she wants.
