2008 Subaru Impreza to be a hatchback?

Then here, the B5- not to replace the WRX?:
The 2008 Subaru Impreza will target the Volkswagen Golf GTI, according to a report by AutoExpress magazine. The article indicates that a sedan model will no longer be offered, and selection will be limited to three- and five-door hatchbacks. Entry-level models will get a 2.0-liter naturally aspirated boxer engine with 170 horsepower. A more powerful STi turbocharged model will offer 300 horsepower. According to the report, the car will be quite similar to the Subaru B5-TPH Concept, but with a slightly more typical rear end. The drawing seems like it has a chance at looking good, but that off white 'B5' thing???

I would really, really like to have been a fly on the wall at all the meetings and tests that this thing has gone through and been brought up in and hear what the people behind making it have said........I'd love to know the reasoning behind making the vehicle look like utter dog poo.

Ok, i like the idea of the hatchback, smaller, lighter, that sort of thing. You got to figure it'll get a normal looking set of headlights, taillights and exhaust. Once they water it down from the concept (at least i guess that's the concept) it'll look fine :)

Hatchbacks are the best... as was stated, it's a concept so it probbably won't be so ugly when/if it's actually made.

keep in mind its an import as well..so there's a chance some hideosity will stay, and this comment is only 50% import bashing.

we've seen most foreign based cars (dont give me "but the parts were made here and it was assembled here" bullsh!t) keep more of their.."extravagant"..stylings when they go from concept to production than our domestic cars which usually are GREATLY watered down when they make it to production.

guys, everything about this thread is WRONG. The B5 has nothing to do with the impreza and theres about 30 different renditions of what the japanese think the next impreza will look like. None of that information is true at all.

THE NEXT IMPREZA WILL NOT LOOK LIKE ANY OF THOSE
