View Full Version : Map light current?

i was wondering if anyone can tell me if the maplights on the mirror are 12vdc, i have my radar detector mounted right above the mirror and would love to be able to tap into the maplights (already switched and fused) and save myself the pain of a wire stretched. I know you can buy a hardwire kit from Cobra but i would rather not have to run more wires down my a-pillars as i already have too many (GPS, Accelo, A/F, Volts). Thanks in advance:)

The inside rearvied mirror as 3 wires
1 BLK/WHT or ORG pos 12V
2 WHT Interior dimming
3 BLK Ground
That is for a 2002 grand-am the color of wires maybe diffent but any light in a car as 12V pos and a ground(it would not work if not )

maps light been the same since they came out. I have one out of a 94 beretta in my GA. The wires are not color but their is a
ground - black
orange - constance
white - switched
To run power to my radar I used a pair of wires from a cat5 cable, I ran it to my power window fuse i belive. A fuse that only had power when the key was turn to "on"
