I just ordered R1 Concept Rotors and I was wondering if anyone had any good recomendations for brake pads ? I'm not sure what would be better Carbon Metallic or Ceramic.
I'm thinking Carbon Metallic but I'd like to here what others are using and there experiances.
I bought the cheapest of cheap Duralast Ceramics, they actually made a grinding noise but I put some disc quiet on the back and theyve been going good after that. Pedal response is alright, you only really feel the difference from stock when you really need it.

i'm planning to upgraded to crossdrilled/slotted rotors soon so i just bought the pepboys special $30 kind, sometime they squeel but not too bad at all for the money

I have these too, very pleased, cheap too. STAY AWAY FROM BENDIX BRAND PADS!!! They wear down extremely fast and the wear indicators snap off and the metal backings dont make any noise, mine were metal on metal and it ruined my rotors!

I have the R1 crossdrilled and slotted.
I went with semi-metalic, they work awsome.

i'm running good old Raybesto's ceramics.... nice and quiet... i suppose when your dad's a mechanic and you have him to the brakework, you don't get noisy shtuff. i don't drive fast enough to need crossdrilled/slotted.... yet.

ceramics = quiet, less dust, but warp rotors faster
semi-metallic = noisy, dusty, work great!, safe for rotors, last pretty long
carbon metallic = expensive, dont last too long, work the best
with that said...i got EBC green stuff but i havnt tried them out yet. i had raybestos ceramic and they warped my rotors in 8k miles, before that i had semi-metallic pads that were noisy and dusty but worked great and my slotted rotors lasted a long time with them (70k miles). my slotted rotors didnt warp til i got the ceramic pads, which ate through the slotted rotors then a set of plain faced brembos.

I've used carbon metallic in the past and went with ceramic this time and there is little difference between the two as far as performance goes. the advantage to ceramic, like dave said, is little dust and the dust made is light so it doesn't discolor your rims. and as with any other brake pads, ALWAYS use brake quiet on them. ceramics are sold as a "non squealing pad" but I've had some squeal after rust started behind the shim plates. put some lube under the plates and on all contact points and you are golden.

Thanks guys great info . The R1's I'm getting are slotted & drilled . I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of differance they will make.

Wont make much difference actually.

Well I got the front rotors on so far .Nice. They are noisey with the Carbon Metallic pads . Hopfully they will quite down a little after the pads are bedded in.
Thanks,
Coop.
Sorry for the quality of the pics I used my cell .

im going to be picking up the ebc green stuff pads soon (and some r1's to boot)
from my research though. the advantage of ceramics is that they last a lifetime and produce no brake dust. semi-metallics produce brake dust but its about 80% less than an oem pad, they also give more stopping power than a ceramic and oem pad by far.
and that's the extent of my research so far.

Almost sounds like scrapping but it's constant like metal on metal . It could be just these type of pads . I'm also thinking mabe I need to pull them apart & check the pad retainers & make sure they aren't hitting the rotors. They didn't look like they were hitting the rotors when I tightened up the brakets but I want to make sure.

After listening to it more this morning I does sound more like chirping. Which I am assuming is normal.

So for street/stock size applications, what would be the best brand and pad type for best stopping power? I'm looking at the ceramics from raybestos on PFYC, but considering how I've got rotor warpage already with probably over 50% wear on front and back pads already, I'd ideally like a setup that will resist warping. For the sake of arguement, lets say the rotors need replacement as well. Any recommendations on a setup? (No slotted/cross drilled rotors)

A ceramic matrix(I have found) seems to be the best happy medium on pads. These pads are essentially a blend between a ceramic and a metallic. GM makes an OE upgrade pad like this and so does Baer.

With the Baer Sport-Touring, they are track ready however they don't put the dust out that alot of high performance pads do. I ran these with my stock calipers and now with my 13" track kit and am pretty pleased. The only downside to them is that they aren't the cheapest pads around. The GM Ceramic blend ones are slightly cheaper and very similar.

I had the green stuff pads back when I used to auto cross. They lasted less than a year and were very dirty.

So the GM pads would be available at a dealer I take it?

Yes. I had the GM version with my stock rotors and then a new set when I got my Baer Decelarotors. Now I have the Baer Sport-Touring and they are similar.
I would need to see what the GM part number is again...don't have it off hand.
