Pontiac will be unveiling the G6 concept at the 2003 NAIAS.
It will feature a 3.5l supercharged 60* v6 w/285 horsepower and 278 lbs-ft of torque! It will also feature DOD, or Displacement on Demand, which will shut off half of the cylinder banks to save on fuel when they are not needed for acceleration.
4T65-E Tranny! With paddle shifting!
Front and Rear FOUR PISTON CALIPERS
Did I mention 285 horsepower???
Everyone has been saying that this could very well be the next Grand Am. Check it out!

Remember guys, this is a CONCEPT car. Concepts don't make it to production, remember the G-Force and the Hot Wheels?
The new GA won't have 4-piston calipers or paddle shifting, unles they make it 40,000$ which they won't.
It'll be nice to see a souped-up GA but don't expect to be able to buy one... :D

I doubt that what they say now in the concept will actually show up in the production model. The g-force is a perfect example of this. Plus, 285 hp??? Thats more than the 2004 grand prix so that really won't happen unless it is a high performance model (GXP). Here are some of the things i wish to see in the next grand am. 240 - 285hp, stick shift, automatic with manual mode, good aggressive styling, navigation system option, and can't forget outstanding performance. But would the price increase? I'm guessing it will.
At the Picnic Jase Stokes said they want to keep the next gen. GA under $30,000 (including the hard-top convertible) so to me that means the car will cost $26,000 to $29,000......
As for the concept car- I'll just be happy to see the lines and the body-style of the vehicle....Of coarse its gonna be supped up for the show, but it will give us a great view as to how the car will look......Anyways, besides some crappy left-field drawings, none of us have seen what the car will really look like....I think the concept at the Auto-Show will give us a fairly decent idea. I for one am GEEKED about going to the NAIAS.....free Supplier Preview Day tickets RULE!!!!

I'd rather see a DOHC 3.6L 260 hp v6 like in the Nissans than a 3.5 supercharged that only has 25 more hp, unless it is a pushrod torquey v6 making that power of course.
Jase said Pontiac knows we all like high torque. He said the engine was specifically designed to be very "torquey"

278 lb/ft of torque is quite a lot. 73 more than the current GT.
I'd rather have a pushrod, personally. They're a lot cheaper than DOHC engines, and are easier to fix.

I agree wholeheartedly, but think about how much power an engine that makes 255-260 hp N/A would make with a supercharger...It would be like 330-350 hp maybe. Which is why I could understand if it was a pushrod because they can't rev as high and would need the boost to put out higher numbers. Either way it is a nice improvement. Swap in a pulley and get 300+ hp, 300+ ft-lbs, not bad at all.

I didn't see the leaked press release, so I can only guess.
I think its going to be a 2.8L turbo V6 with AWD. This is the same setup saab showed last year as the 9-3x. Since 9-3 = grand am = malibu for the next refresh it makes sense.
Also did you notice McLaren was given a big contract to produce alot of engines for GM? Saab isn't a high enough volume car on it own, plus the last time GM turned to McLaren was to produce the turbo engines for the 1990 Turbo grand prix.
Jase said it will be a stroked 3.5L V6....
The next GA should have (on the top of the line model) between 270 and 285hp, and AWD and would sell in the high 20's. Perfect compition to the RX8 since both will seat four and is around the same price and size. Just if the GA does get around 270+hp it will alot faster than a RX8 and would put it against the WRX and mid level Lancer that will be between the cheapie Lancer and maxed otu Evo models.
