Some what of an interesting find this weekend. My mom drives an 05 saturn Vue and wanted me to check the brakes on it. Upon pulling off the 16" wheel, I noticed that it uses a dual piston caliper.

I jacked up my car and removed a 16" chroma tech wheel and bolted it onto the saturn. To my surprise the wheel not only bolted up but had no clearance issues.

I ordered a set of vue calipers today on my lunch hour for $60 shipped with brackets. I think I will need to use F-body brackets though due to the mounting holes to the nuckle being off by approx 1.5"

The calipers should be here sometime this week and I will be gathering the rest of the parts ASAP. I will keep everyone posted as to what I find.

I just looked up rotors for the VUE/NOX on napaonline.com to my surprise the front rotors are only $38.49 a piece and they are the UP which is a step up from the TS rotors that napa carries.

I really wanted to do the vette calipers, however I just put new tires on my stock 16" wheels and can't see myself spending money on new wheels and tires only to spend more money to upgrade the brakes.

If this works out, the stopping power will be greatly improved and I will have only spend around $300

EBC currently has Green stuff Pads out for about the same price as the Napa ceramix pads. Most places sell them for $80

Just got the Hawk HPS pads for the vette calipers and they rock... I had the worst time getting the "performance" Autozone pads to shut up..

Yeah, Hawk HPS pads are great! I highly recommend them.

So the vue etc. have 12" rotors too? Those with two piston calipers and better pads would deffinitely make a nice brake upgrade. Could add in some braided lines too and you'd be all set. That would be great for the people wanting to keep stock wheel size. Just have to find the right bracket that will fit the caliper and bolt to our knuckle right? Hopefully there is one that will work without moddification. Good find.

Hawks are great! I just started driving the GA again after the vette brake upgrade with braided lines and hawk hps pads. I am happy with this upgrade. I don't have spongy brakes anymore and it stops on a dime with no noise.

Update, I ordered the caliper brackets from a 98 camaro today. It was extremely hard to find a salvage yard that would sell just the brackets or that would get off their ass to look and see if they had them. I was quoted anywhere from $40 a piece to "maybe $30 a pair I have to ask the boss"

I eneded up paying $25 a piece + $15 shipping

So my total parts cost is looking like:

Equinox/Vue Calipers $60
Camaro Brackets $65
Rotors $80
Brake pads $50-$90 depending on what I go with

Total cost $255 - $295

How big are these in comparison to the Vette PBR's...

I have never seen vette calipers up close, so I wouldn't know for sure.

I did get the calipers in the mail today, they are Cast Iron and have traces of rust on them. I am going to clean them up a little and paint them before I install them.

I always thought GM's newer calipers were all aluminum, but I took a magnet to them and they are iron. The ones on my mom's 05 Vue look like Aluminum, but they are actually zinc coated from what I can tell.

From what I can tell they will still work out great. I just need to get the camaro brackets and do a few more tests.

*iagree* Yeah they are more expensive but they do grab better, and I hardly get any dust. I also have cross-drilled rotors.

Now this is very interesting. I despise the stock single piston sliding calipers that GM uses on our cars with a severe passion. If this works I'm gonna be doing it myself. If nothing else it'll help prevent sticky caliper slides...

Now that a handful of GA's have it I would say go for it if your a modder... Its night and day once the Hawk's went on... No Fade, smell, or noise... The install was a lil sketch since Dave and I were the first couple of GA's to work out kinks with the clips and the dust shield issues, but now this should be cake... Prepare to spend anywhere from $250 to $600 with SS brake lines, drilled/slotted rotors, which calipers you use, and Hawk HPS pads..

So what things do we need to know to do this mod. Do the original rotors from the car work...or do we have get some different ones.........do the brake lines from the car connect to the calipers......or are they a differnt size? You guys need to be a bit more specific........like does anybody have a how to here we can go by....with all the parts we need and don't seen?

Check the How to Section...

Update

I have the calipers however I got a call from the wrecking company that they did not have the caliper brackets as something was entered in their system wrong.

I have been busy with work and getting ready to return back to school, so it will be a few more weeks before I get everything cleaned up and ordered.

Anything new yet? I checked the How to section, and there is only the corvette upgrade, which is not bad at all. But I don't want something that says corvette on my grand am. Anoher thing, if the brackets and all parts were the same for the Equinox conversion, then cool. But for now don't know if it is. So I'll be waiting for the news on how it goes,,,,,unless somebody else has done it already and can chime in here and give some specific details,,,,,instead of just saying........ Oh yeah it works.

You can buy a corvette brake caliber with out corvette on the caliber.

yea if you get the calipers from autozone then they wont say corvette.

heres a comparo of the stock GA caliper to the vette ones...if we see a comparo of the vue caliper next to the stock GA one then we can see the difference.

Sorry guys, back at school for awhile. I will get around to swapping the calipers some day.

That reminds me I still need to find a yard that has the camaro brackets.

i wonder if the vue/nox brackets would work for this swap. could be something you could look into once you get back home and can get to your mom's vue again.

Hey I was just wondering if there were any updates on this. My brakes are just starting to go bad, and I would not mind being one of the testers for this if the parts can be confirmed. Would we be needing Impala rotors or Equinox rotors for this? I am considering going to a parts store and picking up an Equinox caliper and a camaro bracket to see how it would fit up. If it did I could go buy the other set, if not I could return it.

EDIT: Also do we need F-body pads or Equinox pads, because Hawk doesn't carry any Equinox ones.

Was this ever completed? I'd like to know now too...... Can't do the Vette upgrade. Just got 4 new tires and don't want to go speand 2000 more on wheels tires and brakes.

So, just wondering if this ever got done and if it worked?

I just moved and quite frankly, I have no idea what the hell happened to the calipers. I would probably just go with the camaro calipers since they are Aluminum where as the Vue calipers are cast iron.

i guess i'm missing something. wasnt the whole point of the Vue's caliper the fact that the stock 16" 5-spoke wheel woud fit?

Definitely do so please. I like my stock wheels which is why this interested me so much, I just don't need brakes yet to try this myself.

I believe its boost21 who figured it out. I dont think it was ever actually said they wont fit, just that there was very little clearance between the brake caliper and the wheel.

Mike

Do you have anymore pics and information about how you went about this? These are the corvette calipers or the Equ/Vue?

This is all I needed to know if they will fit on the stock torqued wheels.

Thanks guys, I had seen speculation but never anything definite. One more thing, does anyone know if the brake kit over on mpracing was the same size as the vette brakes? It seems to be more economical.
