Im in trouble. I need assurance i wont be replacing gaskets every month due to boost lol. Do any companies make better than standard gaskets for the 3400?

am i the only person whos blown all sorts of stuff after getting boosted? i know lots of people here still have stock engines, transmissions etc. but not me

Jon,

Go with these:

Lower Intake Gasket 89017559 (both included)
Head Gaskets 12589907 (one gasket included)

They seal very well. Cheaper if you order them through Pace Parts : http://paceparts.com/

Those head gaskets have no problem putting up with 15PSI.

Hopefully that is all that is wrong...

Do you have ported UIM and LIM? I don't remember. I know if the LIM is over ported and the walls get too thin there can be problems with the LIM gasket sealing around the ports. For head gaskets though, I don't know. I haven't heard of anyone who's actually blown one yet due to boost.

I thought that I'd heard of a few guys at 60degreev6 who had? I think that they were running more boost than the SC guys are making, though. I could be way off base here, can anybody corroborate this?

i thought people on this site blow motors instead of head gaskets?

Oh, now you know that better not be a dig on me... Running out of fuel at ~6800 RPM was my issue. Major detonation, crushed the #5 rod bearing, bent the crank .0085. Then I drove the car home almost 200 miles. Head gasket held up fine... The engine didn't "blow up"...

Will have the crank fixed soon enough and come back to give you an @$$ whippin ;)

I blew one on the dyno a while back (felpro) when the meth went dry. Since then I've switched to the same as Todd listed and has been fine.

No worries, it's not only a jab at you. I've spun bearings many times. First when the motor was still mainly in its OEM factory but abused setup, then with nitrous abuse which was a VERY brief time, also been through one 52mm throttle body, upgraded to a 56mm t/b had it do something to itself that wouldn't allow an IAT sensor to behave properly, recently destroyed a 65mm overbore on a 52mm throttle body, and toasted the bearings on a T3/T04e and now here I am today.

:)

*hugs*

Wow, lol we have the best stories for breaking Grand Ams.

Thanks for the link Todd.

Aaron, i dont have them ported. Well i dont know yet if i have blown one or not, im hoping thats what it is. but either way i need to replace a lot of gaskets ;) . I have to unhook my exhaust because one nut wont come off. Its all welded so i dont have any play either even if it did come off - to get the back off.

Thanks Jheazy, but im not ready to do that yet.

Blight, are you running the MAF, stock injectors, and did you do any tuning to the PCM?

Also what is the verdict on your engine?

Well it was a bunch of crappy gaskets i came across on the way down to the head gasket. The LIM was in bad shape but not breached. They all were flaking off lol

I never had this engine apart.

So now that it is, i found damged pistons. Pix coming soon probably. I will be needing those gaskets now that im settled down and realized to stick to the 3400 and not try anything crazy like a motor swap ;)

S,ucks about the damage but glad to see that you are staying with the 3400.

Sorry to be right on this.

Yeah i was looking for a 3800 swap which i could do in a years time possibly, or else try and fit a 5.3 or 5.7 rear wheel drive. but after making a list of ever single thing i would need fabricated and customized it would take over 2 years at least between my finances and the time involved. But that would have been a fun project for me and my friends.

also seeing Pat run at the track friday night brought back my senses haha. People in the stands were like WTF when they saw it take off
