Here is the set up, 1991 Eclipse GSX, 2.0l turbo (don't know the trim, stock turbo) with manual boost control.

Things that have been replaced(all OEM): fuel pump, throttle body, injectors, egr valve, o2 sensor, computer, new spark plug wires, new valves, new timing belt.

Here is the problem:
No power, exhaust manifold is cherry red after running, have to push up boost inorder to go up steep hills. keeps buring MAF sensor. Gas millage sucks.

This is a car of one of my coworkers, its been doing this since last fall and has been in the shop constantly since. Everyone that has looked at it, including the guys a mitsubishi stealership can't figure out whats going on, just trying to search the waters to see if anyone has any idea, when I get a chance I'm gonna post over on Jbody.org and a few other places.

Thanks!

Is the turbine spinning freely in the turbo & have they checked the cat to make sure it's not clogged . I don't really know the first thing about them .But thats what I would check first it the exhaust is getting that hot.

Exh prob can't get out which is why the manifold is glowing red. Maybe a turbo prob or the cat I would say. Pull the turbo and see what it looks like.

Does it rev freely when in neutral?

Sorry, he forgot to tell me, new exhaust with free flow cat, turbo has 5,000 miles on it, when its cool it runs ok for a few, then once warmed up and run, it sucks. Spins free when in neutral.

If it runs fine when its cool, and crappy when its warm, I'd bet on the O2 sensor. Just because there is a new one in there, doesn't mean its working correctly. When I first started reading what you were describing, the O2 came to mind, but other people's responses seemed reasonable. And you stated that the O2 had been replaced. But, now with the new info, I'm back to the O2 being the culprit. The O2 is out of the loop until it gets warmed up, but once it gets into the loop, it controls how much fuel the PCM sends to the engine.

Might also check the wiring going to the O2 sensor for any frays, burns, etc...

I would assume the turbo is getting oil? Does it have an intercooler? How far away from the turbo is the O2 sensor?

There's an o2 housing right after the turbo... Which is part of the downpipe if i remember correctly....

I'm thinking make sure the turbo is getting oil and not fouling the o2, make sure the o2 wire isn't ****, make sure the wire going to the pcm is good,.... **** has to be something rediculously retarded once you find out exactly.

hey thanks for the insight, my coworker is gone till next week (tractor show...don't ask) but i will get him to bring the car to work again so I can take a look at it, he has replaced the o2 sensor a couple of times :banghead: , that was the first thing that came to my mind, and the first thing he did, the next was part of the wiring harness and then supposidly the entire lower wiring harness...i don't trust the shop he had taken it to originally but I will check these things personally when he gets back from the show. thanks again, any more info will be appretiated, and I will keep y'all posted.

Sounds like a clogged cat to me.. Maybe some grim got rattled loose when swapping out the turbo and exhaust and it got stuck in the new cat. Just a thought.

Ok I showed him everyones response and this is what he said "So thats probably why I keep buring oil.." He also said the shop told him they still thinks its just running too rich. I told him to go to a differant shop and have them look at the turbo , cat, and O2 sensor.

Thanks.
