ok, so heres the deal: LukeD is trading me my car for a stock black 2000 GAGT, + money. i am not willing to disclose the details, but the point is, he will have my car to fool around with.
stay tuned for him to take it to the next level. i would expect that car to be the most bad a$$ thing around once he gets his hands on it.
this stock car, however, will most likely stay stock. I will either use it as a winter beater, or trade it in to get my new car.
i know it will be asked so heres what im looking at (no particular order):
-'06 GTO
-'06 350Z
-'06 maxima (the '07 is out, but has less hp)
-'06 tahoe
-'07 titan
-'07 mustang gt (i know, i know, its a ford :( )

If youre looking at GTO's ..... Try and find a leftover 05. Not only are they cheaper, but they have less problems than the 06's. W/ the money you save, you can buy the taillights if you like them that much.

yea i really cant decide.
i love the g35 coupe, but its 10k more than the max that im looking to spend.
im so indecisive, i change my mind daily about what i want.
i cant wait to see what luke does to this car. honestly, its running better than it ever has, and i finally finished everything that i wanted to do to car, and now i dont get to enjoy it. at least i know itll be in good hands.

Um... maybe 'cause it's almost twice as expensive? Or 'cause it's a watered down sissy luxo version of the 350Z? Take your pick...

It's your decision to make but I can speak for the Maxima. The engine is amazing and you'll have to get use to how it drives and takes off. I'm sure the 6speed manual is faster but the 5speed with manual mode works. I use it all the time. It allows me to upshift and downshift within a safe rpm range. I use it to slow down and 3rd gear in this car is scary. This car burns rubber while turning corners. I can make the tires chirp from 20-25mph.
The Boss system is very nice and the bass gets louder when you crank it up. On the 04-06 models you can easily relocate the screen and put it at the bottom. Then you can put a monitor up top. I'll be doing this soon.
I get older guys in their Avalons tail gating all the time. Just last month some guy tail gated in his BMW745Li on an open two lane road, when all he had to do was go around? When we approached the toll way he went around but I was taking the toll way too. When he saw me merge behind him he took off like he stole the car. He went threw the toll first and took off, I went threw the toll after him and caught him at 100mph. He look at me and chilled out. I wanted to use him to test this ride but oh well. Whatever work this engine does I never have to go pass 100mph.:driving:

The maxima is a sweet car. I take one any chance that I can as a company car to get home from work each night. I love the 07 model- CVT transmission and keyless ignition. The 350Z is sweet also. I'm sure that whatever you buy will be an awesome car!
The G35 is sweet, but for what you actually get, its rather expensive...

yea im already sold on the power of the VQ35. my fiance has the altima with that VQ35, and it really hauls. i dont think the maxima comes in stick, but the altima SER does, so i would consider that.
the new maxima with the CVT has 10 less hp. also, when i drive the murano with the CVT it feels less powerful. i love a nice hard shift versus a smoothe acceleration.
the 350z has that same VQ35, buts its RWD versus FWD (in the maxima and altima).

The 04-06 Maxima has an optional 6speed manual. I'm not sure about the new 07 though. I think Nissan dropped the stick at least for now.

actually, now im looking at practicality. since money will be tight, i think ill look down into the low 20s for a vehicle.
heres now what im looking at:
mazdaspeed3
FJ cruiser
caliber srt4
any other low $20k ideas? im avoiding pontiac right now since the G6 is overpriced for what it is, and the altima 3.5 (another idea) is what we already have. no more two of the same car again.
i need to save for a house, so a 30-40k car isnt practical. if i get a good job then things could change.
GregFarz78

civic si?
The Mazdaspeed3 is going to be sweet, but your looking around 26k. 2.3L Turbo, same as the other speed engines, FWD platform, 18s from the factory, and a better suspension than the already well handling 3 hatch has.
You can probably get into one with "less" options for 24, I can find out for you.
You can probably get into a MazdaSpeed6 for roughly 26-27 if you talk to them right, there are quite a few left, our dealership has 13 of them. Invoice is 25,500 on the 31k one (everything minus navigation)
Oh and the FJ is NO WAY in the low 20s, not at all. Everyone I have seen has been low 30s

Mazdaspeed3 would be nice. If I decided to buy a new car that's the one on top of the list. The Mazdaspeed3 is available already? I thought would be ready by next year.

Low 20's hmm im looking at 2006 subaru impreza's wrx's right now . I have a nice deal going for 25,800 right now

also consider you're moving to NJ and insurance rates are thru the roof there
caraudiodave
08-29-2006, 01:46 PM
insurance isnt any higher than in so cal.
the FJs that i saw were about 22k, same for what mazda claims for the speed3.
another thing that i thought of was the xterra. now that it has the vq35 its actually pretty quick, and i fit in it pretty well.
hmm so many decisions. the civic si is a no go for two reasons:
1) i really hate the fact that it has NO torque
2) its too small for me. im 6'4" at about 235lbs.
Well the MS3 comes out this coming month, but I dont think you are going to get into it for 22, thats pretty damn close to invoice is my guess, and seeing as how they cant keep the NON turbo 3 hatches in stock, the MS3 hatch is going to sell even faster, you will be hardpressed to make a deal, atleast at first

honestly, the MS3 is a little small for me. if i got a good deal is the only way id drive one.
chances are itll be either an FJ cruiser or an xterra, and the xterra is looking like it because i like nissan WAY more than toyota.

And I dont like any of thier cars other than the MS6, and the CX7... the RX8 is a raving pile, and the MS3 is actually growing on me less, I just dont like full blown hatchbacks

The Frontier is pretty nice too if you arent totally set on an SUV, the Nismo king cab is around 22-23k and its got the vq40

Yeah, civic si is a lot of car for the $20k range. So is the mazdaspeed3. As much as I hate them you could always look into a scion tc too. I'd say solctice or sky as well, but with the markups and limited availability you'll never find one for $20k like they're supposed to be and you said you were looking for practical which they aren't exactly.

I assume you mean the steering wheel shift buttons. If they follow the patterns of last 2 Legacy generations, the 4th year gets some front fascia changes, and an actual paddle shifter.
I test drove an LGT, and it's definetly a sweet ride. Too bad I can't afford one.

well the deal went through. i got my 2000 black 4 door GT now, and luke now has the NICE99.
theres a few things im doing to it, but its taying 100% stock since it will now be a winter car unless i trade it in.
i think im gonna go crazy, the speakers sound blown, but that might jsut be because im not used to a stock system in a grand am. lol

Your system works pretty good Dave. It'll take me a while to figure it all out though. Hey any chance you're looking to sell a black drivers side rocker panel? lol
Also I was going to ask, do you have the back middle seatbelt, or is it under the rear bench? Oh and what's that button you added next to the dimmer switch for?
Oh and it was pretty trippy driving back up and testing the ability to kill all the front lights while driving in the dark. I only tested it for a second though, it was too much for me on the freeway lol. Hmmm maybe I can make a switch to kill the tails too.
caraudiodave
09-05-2006, 10:14 PM
well...
1) i dont think i have the center belt, but ill look.
2) that switch is the valet switch. you can activate valet mode by either turning the key from off to on twice quickly, or by hitting a code on those buttons. that PDF talks about it, i never changed the code off of default.
im glad the system worked out so far. read through the manual, that head unit has lots of cool functions. any tuning youl need to do is through that head unit.
i got kumho tires today. the car rides much smoother. i also put on the bra to prepare it for shipping. i also got the title transferred. they require a smog check everytime the title is transferred. car passed without issues, but i guess the computer tripped out since we hooked up powertuner to it. it all cleared up for the second run.

Cool yeah I forgot, that on a stock GA the Powertuner will sometimes throw a security light or sometimes weird code, that takes a little while to go off. Usually if you have a Powertuner the first thing you do is turn off that security, cause after all who wants to steal a stock GA headunit anyway? :smokin: So basically I'm now waiting on Charles from DHP to get back to me with that 99 SE DHP file so I can have make one stock and one modified PCM, so I can delete that cat code to pass smog.
