I've done some work recently on my car and just this past weekend got a chance to take some pictures with '01GTGirl's camera (she's so nice), so here are black reflective badges w/ chrome outline (GrafxWerks)

Well, it was more of an act of extreme-saving up for a good year, lots of graduation $$$, and a slight mis-appropriation of some un-needed college loans... but not much

Boost guage: $50
Tranny cooler: $30
GTX badging: $20
Having free access to your friend's sawzall: priceless

[edit] Forgot to add the fact that I don't go out anymore... except like once every two weeks... so that's helped a lot :(

Looks great Rob, I can't wait to see more. Your #1 fan (Seth) has been updating me all the way, he's pretty excitied about the boost-factor!

Yeah, Ryan the black reflective GTX totally surprised me... I was worried that it'd get lost against a black car, but man, when it reflects, there is NO mistaking it. When I get my hands on my dad's digicam this weeks, I'll take some time, clean the car, and put together a nice black/reflecting collage.

Nice, Rob....can't wait to see it in person someday. Incidentally, if you aren't running synthetic oil yet I'd seriously consider switching soon....an oil cooler wouldn't be a bad idea either.....

What the hell did you have to saw zall?

Next time I go to Seth's place all the tress and bushes will be just laying there in piles...he's a little trigger happy with that thing lol

Irate,

I was actually just looking at pics of your car the other night. It looks VERY nice!!! I love what you've done to it!

I was always curious though... what is a Grand Am GTX?? I've heard of the GXP show car, the SC/T, GT1, GT, SE, STX (wasn't that an older production model?), etc... but never saw a GA GTX.

Again, props to you and your ride!!!

They're 2-5/8 inches. The boost is mechanical, all of my other guages are electrical. As for the install, its pretty straight-forward... I used silicone sealant to secure the guage to the vent bezzel from the back of the guage.

So what... its a boosted Pontiac w/ SLP exhaust... its pretty close... :D Would you of rather I put GTP?

MattsGTP
01-12-2003, 09:12 AM
If you guys want to get into a heated "I just put GTX badges on my GT/GTP", as SnM knows... go to the GP forum and look it up.

A car is NOT a GTX (Grand Prix) unless your VIN is registered with SLP. Period.

A BASE Grand Prix GTX package requires an SLP hood too... (it's right on SLP's website, if I'm not mistaken).

*BUT, Irate, it's your car, put on it whatever you want...

A car isn't about what you name it... it's about what it can do. With a 14.01 1/4 mile (all motor with a Power Adder that you don't have to refill...), that GA can obviously perform... (fake/ duplicated badges or not... the quickness is real).

No matter what I do to my GP, it will always be a GP GTP, even if I dropped an LS1 in there... I would never rename it an F-body name.
I don't and never will understand why you'd call your car something it's not... but hey... TO EACH THEIR OWN!!
At least he can back it up...

IrateSpeed6
01-12-2003, 09:27 AM
I didn't put GTX on my car because I wanted it to be named after a Grand Prix... frankly I don't care if there is a GTX Grand Prix or not... if the SLP Grand Prix was named something else I still would have put GTX on my car.

My original intention was to set my car apart... its obviously no ordinary Grand Am GT anymore... :)

And the 2-5/8 gagues fit just fine?

flex94
01-12-2003, 01:20 PM
Gauges are nice and all, but how are you a 'GTX'? Isn't that a slp package?

MattsGTP
01-12-2003, 03:18 PM
Flex,

First off, get on your own forum. Didn't you know GPs aren't supposed to post here? :p hehe, j/k.

Second, he already explained how he's a GTX just a couple posts above. He has a "blown Pontiac w/SLP exhaust..."

BTW Irate, for the like... 3rd time. Kudos to you and your ride! The gauges look nice, but how do they affect the heat/AC?

flex94
01-12-2003, 06:21 PM
Opps, my appologies!!

GTX definately sets your car name apart.

Just don't become GT-R or anything unless you have a nissan badge....

The whole becoming something (or claiming you are) you are not just annoys b/c there is this V6 MUSTANG in the east lansing area and he has cobra badges (like 10 of them) all over his car....its just sick

Can you link me some pics of your car and some info on how your supercharger is set up and working please?

When I was buying cars GuruII told me about 'the GTX' i was like damn what is that...and he went on to explain GTPs (grand prix with superchargers etc)....then I asked well is there a grand prix GTP....he was like no.....I was sad at that time because I really wanted a grand prix.....and supercharger....

....so I had to go to a different but similar model....grand prix....

anyhow I wasn't trying to be a pain, was just curious if something "new" came out from SLP I wasn't aware of...etc.

Good luck...and post some dyno numbers and times with that baby!

IrateSpeed6
01-12-2003, 06:34 PM
Well, you can click on the link in my signature for the pictures etc. As you can tell in my sig, I was able to run a 14.01 at the track on street tires which was roughly a 1.4 second drop from my stock times. The stock rims in the first picture aren't mine... I used them at the track that day because the 18's I have on my car now are just too damn heavy for their own good (like any other 18" rims)...

The supercharger is a centrifugal blower unlike the roots-style blower you have on your GTP. The oil pan also had to be tapped to supply the SC... It runs and sounds great, I'm totally pleased with it.

flex94
01-12-2003, 07:51 PM
Yeah the centrifugal is treating you nice...they make some mean power at the end of the RPM band....

14.0X is a very impressive time....I'm extremely impressed..congrats....especially on street tires.

How does your power feel on the track....does the centrifugal just pick up some mean HP right around 3300rpm and beyond?

The crappy thing about roots blowers is that we just run out of gas at the upper rpms....if i'm not mistaken.

btw: curious to what vortech kit you ended up using (i.e. 99 v6 mustang...etc), and did you have to update your pcm? or are you running a stock computer?

thanks

MattsGTP
01-12-2003, 08:11 PM
Yep. Our M90s suck it big time like you said. They're good for tire smoking, tranny trashing power, but that's about it. Intercooled, they run a HELL of a lot better. I couldn't believe the difference that made. My blower will literally condensate, even after hard driving. I love it.
It's still the most inefficient thing.

Flex, if you plan on changing your power adder, let me know (onephatprix) and I'll hook you up with more information than you'll know what to do with ;)

A nice intercooled turbo will spit out some AMAZING HP numbers (on the GA and GP). (you'd have to change a lot of bottom end stuff on the GA though).

rob has a Vortech V-9 model (G-trim). the ecu is reprogramed by RSM Racing in Canada when you buy the kit. btw, is it possible yet to remove the governor with boost? does ASE do it?

i checked out your site

the power inverter is cool, i have one too....jenson...but you have a very nice install.

the BULLITT gas cap is really not my style on your type of car...now if you are a ford luva...thats fine....

..i had a bullitt style gascap on my mustang....but....i guess whatever floats your boat....

....maybe you should put cobra emblems on your car like that guy around my area...heck mustang...gagt....who's gonna know the difference?
