Gasoline Could Drop to $1.15/Gallon
By Richard Gardner
Probably not as that is the lower end of the estimate, but a well-respected oil industry analyst says expect gas prices to plunge. Oil prices are more than the basic supply and demand curves, including future expectations such as unrest in oil producing regions and hurricanes in the Gulf of Mexico.
The recent sharp drop in the global price of crude oil could mark the start of a massive sell-off that returns gasoline prices to lows not seen since the late 1990s — perhaps as low as $1.15 a gallon.
“All the hurricane flags are flying” in oil markets, said Philip Verleger, a noted energy consultant who was a lone voice several years ago in warning that oil prices would soar. Now, he says, they appear to be poised for a dramatic plunge.
Crude-oil prices have fallen about $14, or roughly 17 percent, from their July 14 peak of $78.40. After falling seven straight days, they rose slightly Wednesday in trading on the New York Mercantile Exchange, to $63.97, partly in reaction to a government report showing fuel inventories a bit lower than expected. But the overall price drop is expected to continue, and prices could fall much more in the weeks and months ahead.
That would be nice.

I'm waiting for the $2.00/gal to start getting excited (isn't that sad, excited over $2.00/gal?) I live in IL, close to MO and find it worth it to drive across the river 5mi out of my way to Perryville, MO where it's $2.11/gal as opposed to $2.45 where I live.

I doubt a national average of much below $2.00 will happen anytime soon, if again. OPEC will slow production to keep $/barrell up to stop prices from getting to low, they have to make thier money too. I still see around 2.40- 2.55 here, there are a couple of places that are 2.20ish but there is always a line.

It's gotten as low as $2.28 here. I never expected it to get below $2.50 again..... hoping it keeps going down, but I'm not gonna hold my breath for sub-$2.00 prices.
it was down to 2.08-2.15 around here but then it jumped for no reason to 2.23. still better than 2.70+.

Apparently they are. I'll be out in Colorado in a few weeks and plan on moving there in '07 sometime. The gas prices had better fall by then!
well, i heard that the west coast was affected by that oil pipeline that they had to close. maybe thats why there higher there?

It has come down here, also.
Aug 10, '06 = $1.040Cdn/L = $3.559 US per US Gallon.
This morning it was $0.815Cdn/L = $2.81US per US Gallon.
That is a $0.225Cdn/L about $0.749US per US Gallon DROP since Aug 10, '06.

lowest I've seen in Indy is 2.04, but it continues to drop daily. Honestly if it stayed at around the $2 range I'd be content. In all honesty if it were just inflation, and nothing else, $2 would be reasonable.

Here's my take on the falling gas prices....With all the talk and action on alt. fuels, do you think it scared the oil companies into dropping the price? I think it did. Now ask yourself, how do we get a bunch of pissed off people to forget about alt. fuel..... rapidly drop the price of gas......Yeah!!!! they're happy again. Now, slowly bring the price back up.....

Valid point skullrot...but im still not going to complain about it dropping. Plus now I'm getting like 26MPG city. (toyotaaaa haha)
im thinkin maybe it has to do with oil company's using ethonol in fuel like was planned previously(posted here before by jung IIRC). maybe they are just getting around to it now.

From: Ethanol Blended (E-10) Gasoline that is coming to the US (http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showthread.php?t=60798)
So with the US this summer changing their gasoline formulation to ethanol blends.
To stop using MTBE (methyl tertiary butyl ether).
from: http://www.e10unleaded.com
...The ethanol in E-10 Unleaded adds two to three points of octane to gasoline...
After having a read of this thread: See post below - can't seem to link a 2nd GAGT forum thread
Will you still use 87-octane gasoline (after they blend it with 85-octane gasoline & ethanol to make it 87-octane) ?
When I fill my Mom's Sunfire GT with Sunono ethanol (up to 10%) blended gasoline; I always reach for the 89-octane (which is 87-octane gasoline blended with ethanol to make 89).

Yeah its weird... its even illegal to pump your own gas in Jersey... so you'd think that would raise the price some.
Well they jack up tolls.... not many roads can be traveled without paying a toll in Jersey, so they make enough money there that the state doesnt need to have as high of gas tax. I also believe there is 2 or 3 refineries, maybe more in the state, so transporting it doesnt cost as much.
Funny thing is, cost of living and everything else is higher than most the rest of the country, but gas is cheaper than most the rest of the country.....
