I just got my cutout installed and the wiring is all set up. All I can say is WOW!! It completely surpassed my expectations and its so much fun to hear it rumble. I also wound up setting off a car alarm on the way home which was good for a laugh. If anyone is considering this mod I say go for it, you won't regret it

I like it, how much did everything end up costing you

$260 was the grand total.
$179.00 for the cutout (Pipe and motor)
$ 20.00 for the wire and switch
$ 60.00 for the install (wiring not included)

I can't say yet. I haven't had much opportunity to really cut it loose. Butt dyno I can't say if its faster or what, but it did seem to accelerate a little faster in the second gear range as far as I could tell. Well after I get my CAI I'll be planning some track time so we'll see how it goes.
Technically a cutout is the ideal means for performance in combination with a well designed exhaust system. I forget what cars, but some had cutouts that opened automatically under WOT and past a certain RPM too IIRC. Point of it was to have enough backpressure to promote scavenging in certain conditions and at the sametime have a set up that promotes highflow with little to no restrictions when necessary.
For me with my stock exhaust I'm sure it'll help in terms of performance.

Looks good, I've been thinking of getting one of these myself, just need to raise the cash.

I think that the Z06 Corvette has that system integrated into it's mufflers; more backpressure for lower RPMs, less for high.

Gee guess this is turning into request night :). I'll have one of it opening and closing soon. I'm just lazy :p
Also for anyone considering the cutout I say go for it. It may or may not give as much of a HP boost as a full exhaust or catback system, BUT if you get tired of hearing the rumble with a cutout you can close it. I will be changing the location of the switch to b/w the ETS and Hazard light buttons soon as well. Pics to follow once its done.
And since this is my thread anyways I want to mention I just helped install my new MP Racing CAI. I got it from MP Racing (lvemy3100) and I'm very impressed with the quality of all the parts. For those who are skeptical about the fit on a GA all I have to say is we (Mark and I) did it w/out taking off the tire and the only "modification" necessary was to bend a mounting bracket for the resonator out of the way. Granted it took a little doing to get the filter to sit correctly and not bulge out the wheel well, I'm happy to say it fits well, works well, and sounds really cool especially with the cutout open.

does the motor stop automatically when the cutout is open/closed 100%? or is it more of a guessing game

The motor doesn't stop but you can kinda tell when its open fully. I usually count a for a couple seconds or go by sound. Its kinda easy to tell when its open and closed.

I'm not surprised. I still have my res so I could see the two equaling out pretty close. Even without it I doubt there'd be much noticable difference b/w the two.

Since I have this thread I made up months ago I'll reuse it.
Its now May and the cutout motor is shot to sh**. I originally got it from DMH performance which is where the GP guys go for apparently. Well according to the site (now at least) the motor is warrantied for 4 yrs (2yrs when I bought it). And BIG SURPRISE the owner won't respond to emails requesting warranty claim info. Anyone want to help me harass him?
