HU wiring question

We are installing an Alpine CDA-9857. The GM wiring harness has wires for Illumination (orange) & dimming (orange-white). The Alpine only has an orange wire for illumination. I seem to recall that our old head unit (a Pioneer DEH-P750MP wich was ripped off along with the amps & sub). had the orange & orange/white wires both connected to the orange lead from the HU. Should I ignore the orange/white wire on the Alpine unit?

Right.. tape off the orange/white. Basically your orange wire comes on w/ the parking lights, and same for the orange-white but that's an output of the dimmer.. some head units' lights will dim with the interior, in this case though, it's just on / off.

It's been a while, but I don't know if the car-side harness has both either.. can't remember.
