I just bought a 2000 GA GT coupe. I am pretty sure it has the monsoon system in it b/c it comes with both the cd and cassette player( I think this denotes the monsoon but not sure). It also has all of the equalizer controls right on the front of the head unit (if that helps). I was wondering if it is possible to connect and amp and sub to the stock unit. Right now I have my sub and amp hooked upto a Son after stock head unit in my 93 Ford Escort. I didn't want to go ripping into the dashboard without know that they can be hooked up w/o an aftermarket head unit. Thanks in advance for your help.

Try searching, but yes you can hook up an amp and sub to your stock deck. You will need a line - out converter to either your rear 6*9's or behind your stock deck.

What I did on my GA was tap into 2 of the 4 wires going to each of the rear speakers ( two for the tweeters and the other two to the 6x9 sub) Tapping into the sub wires, I used a high level input crossover and it converts the signal to a low level RCA output for any amp. Sound quality isn't as great as using pre-outputs from a deck. Our stock decks do not have these pre-outputs. But it still works. Keeps thiefs from thinking that I have a system.

Sounds good. Thanks for the help both of you. I don't officially get the car till atleast friday b/c I made the dealership reedo the instake gasket since gm v6 engines are known to go back after 60000 miles.

huh? ;crap
anyways, theres no monsoon in the pre 01 models. it is an upgraded and amplified system, but since its not monsoon youre ok with adding a line out converter before your amp and sub.

Spammers FTL. Give him da boot. :asshat
Edit: To at least keep it somewhat on topic - you can run a sub off of the stock head unit with a line output converter - that's how I've had mine set up for about 2 years now.

Just looked up the line outconverters online. Circuitcity has one for $40. The way i read is that it takes RCA and changes them into speaker wires. Is there anything else I have to buy besides that? I have the sub wires and the inline fuse and all that stuff from my other car. Can anyone tell me how or give me a link on how to set this converter up? Thank you guys for your info. I don't really like stock HU's. But since buying this car took almost all of my savings (i'm 18) I don't really have the $ to spend on a HU.

its actually the opposite...it takes the speaker level that you have and converts it to the low level (RCA level) that the amp needs.
something i forgot to mention is that some amps have a speaker level input wich eliminates the need for an external line out converter.
also, stick with the better LOCs since cheap ones will possibly induce noise into the system.

to set it up u have four wires to go from your factory 6x9's into that and a ground wire so take wired hhok them onto your 6x9's into the cross over and hook up fround then hook up amp and sub and u are good to go

i decided not to put in my sub and amp. I'm gunna sell my sub and the money i get fro mthat and my bday $ (which is tuesday) i'm gunna buy aftermarket speakers and then hook up my amp to them. Possibly....sounds like a good idea? Anyone have a suggestion on their favorite speakers for the car? My old escort has sony explodes in it but idk if i was to happy with how they sounded
