here's my log from my 12.4 run... Just in case anybody is wondering what the hell is going on in the car.
I'm seeing a lot of knock 6 degrees max. It's a bit rediculous but hey, that's life and tuning.
unzip and enjoy.

Hhhhmmmm.... Running 13.9 lbs of boost with 6* of KR. I know of a number of Grand Prix guys that would freak at seeing those numbers. Personally, I'm surprised that it stays together. Are you trying to run the stock timing from that GM reflash?

............................
yes.
yeah gtp guys freak out on everything.
so I'll just keep on going till the car does something..
as a side note, my motor mounts are useless, and one lil segment of my intercooler plumbing is tinging against a subframe piece... so um...........
**** what the hell do I know? I just put it together pray for the best and hit the track.
Yeah....lol...that 6* of KR would probably concern me a tad.

spyhunter, you know a guy with a turbo gtp in las vegas that runs 11.9s? He told me there was a grand am out there that was doing low 12s.. i figured if it was one with a v6, then i must have never heard of em being that fast lol. Its too bad the 3.1/3.4s gaskets suck so much or else more guys would have boosted them. Gregs silver GTP is fast though, hes faster than my car and ive run 11.98@112.8 on hoosier slicks.

Yeah I know who you're talking about. He never ran 11.9 in Vegas. He'll easily be in the 12's here though. At least you know what grand am he was talking about running 12's. *raises hand*

Yeah but in dity jersey he was always running 92 or 93 pump gas. I hear hes mixing in a lot of inexpensive 100+ octane and running more boost than here, im sure that will make up for the bad gas but good air in NJ.
I was also referencing that the gaskets on the 3.1/3.4s arnt too great. I know theres a handful of reasons the market never got going to great, but big failures will keep most serious modders dumping out the bucks into the car from getting a head much. Most guys with just mp62 superchargers were already working the stock transmission too hard. If they had built transmissions years ago for them and guys were able to focus their time/money into the engine im sure more would have boosted setups.
How many 3.1/3.4s have you seen with upper/lower/tb/head gasket leaks? Mines had one at 74k and same damn one is leaking again at 125k 3yrs later. Ive seen tons at car lots and peoples personal rides that have some type of leak or evidence that at one time there was a major leak. In my area, i frequently see 3100 and 3400 used cars from GM for 1k or less, "Needs headgasket", or Engine Leak, etc... Most are 70-130k miles. How many 3.8L gm engines do that? not many.

advance your timing a bit maybe the knock will go down.

Gasket leaks have nothing to do with boost though unless you actually blow a head gasket, which is not a common problem for boosted cars. My car has never had a LIM gasket leak, even before I put the updated ones on. If you use good gaskets and install them properly you won't have a problem and they wouldn't stop you from running boost. We can also get MLS head gaskets now from the 60v6 store so thats not an issue for running big boost.
Basically the only potential problems that used to hold the car back were the weak tranny and the ability to tune. Now there are fixes for both, but they are still not simple drop-in/bolt-on fixes and require the end user to have some knowledge about his car, so that does hold some people back.
Oh and btw, my '97 GP 3800 engine had 129k miles when I bought it and it had oil leaks all over and need all kinds of new gaskets. The stamped steel pans on them are much more prone to leaking than the rigid aluminum ones on the 3400.

This is an old thread. Actually I should've taken away some timing.
You should see the timing on the car from my C16 tune. Jesus it's winding out like a mad man.
when are you hitting the track again?

See attached. 1.6 KR is not too bad. A lil fuel may help. Perhaps adding in PE? Or perhaps through the MAF table.
P.S. - I will be landing in Vegas on Oct 6th - 8:30PM (local). Gimme a shout. We will actually be heading towards Utah (parks -n- such). Hotel for the first night is 1 hr outside Vegas. You Climb?

It needed a lil more time on the dyno that's for sure, but also a lot of 2.4 people have been having to deal with strange phantom knock, which is why I wasn't too concerned with the lil 1.6 blip.
Vegas 1 hour outside? Let me know when time is closer, since that's like a month and a half and change down the road. I'm game to driving a lil bit to say 'ello 'ello.
