Alright guys, I just received a Ipod 4th Gen 20 GB for my b-day, and the next thing I want to do is hook it up to the car. I would like something that will directly go into the system, ruling out the fm transmitor. I'd like clarity to be great, so I'd rather not hook it up through the in phone spot.
It'd be great if I could find a specific kit that would actually go into the factory radio and would be able to be controlled by the factory radio and had a charger for the ipod. Keeping all of that in mind I have done very many searches on ebay, google, and other things, and it's just nearly impossible to weed through all of the things that you get.
Keeping all that in mind, I don't mind doing a little work to hook it up (however, I don't know my audio) and I would prefer to keep it under $100 if possible. If you have ANY suggestions that would be great...thank you

I dont think there is any way possible to hook the iPOD to the stock radio, but I could be wrong.
The cheapest way would be to get a cheap after market HU with audio jacks in the back to input external devices. Then you can get an adapter to hook the iPOD to it, but the control will all be done on the iPOD and not through the HU.
Just not going to work with the factory radio. However, new cars are starting to come with MP3 player/iPOD hookups.

incorrect, there are plenty of ways to hooking a ipod up to the stock head unit. I dont blame you for not wanting to use an fm transmiter (they suck). Cheapist way to get this rolling is, if you have the head unit with the cassette player, you can buy a cassete adapter (cassete-head phone jack). Cheapest easiest way.

Unfortunately, I don't have the head unit with the cassette player, or else yes that would be a viable option.
pyro- I looked at that, but this kind of made me uneasy...it doesn't mention capatablility with 2001-2002 grand ams. If someone knows that it will work please say so, because this would be a great option that definately fits.
# 1996-2000 Pontiac Grand Am: Harness A, Note: Connect to radio. Requires an in-dash cassette player.
# 2003-2005 Pontiac Grand Am: Harness C, Note: Connect to radio. Not for Monsoon Systems.

This was the one I was going to get before deciding to part with the Grandam this spring. Ipod Adapter (http://www.crutchfield.com/S-JJHZcjD1hfY/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?I=541PXDPKG) However it also needs to be part of a head unit that has a cassette deck

I took my stock radio long time ago and I don't remember if they have an aux input for RCA cables. I they do you can buy an RCA cable for $12 and plug the RCA to the AUX input. Like I say, don't remember if they have an aux input. Search around or ask someone. I still have my stock radio at home so I'll look and see whats behind the radio when I get back home.

Unfortuntetly there is not an Ipod adapter out there for your year radio . I have the same year car and wanted to hook up my i-pod to it without using a FM transmitter .
Want I ended up doing was searching e-bay for a stock radio from a 2003- and up grand with MP3 option . I found one for pretty cheap (US $50) . I swapped out the radios and got the aux-pod unit with harness , now it works great . Some of the functions you can control by radio but some you cannot . Also no information shows up on the radio screen like in some vehicles with an ipod adapter .

I got the iTrip thing that runs connects to the cigarrette charger. It's okay, gets cracky and stuff all the time. Therefore, I barely use it. Don't get the iTrip. Not worth the money.
