Big thanks to Ryan for working on the forum upgrade tonight. We still have a few small tweaks to reactivate.

I'm actually suprised it was only down for a couple hours. Just upgrading from 3.6.1 to 3.6.2 (IIRC) was somewhat of a pain for us. I just couldn't imagine going from 3.5.4 to 3.6.4 with as many hacks as you guys have.

And to answer a few peoples questions... Some of the hacks that were available for 3.5.4 aren't available for 3.6.4. Or, trying to find the upgraded hacks can be a PITA sometimes. But glad to see you guys pulled it off smoothly.

we nixed chat. Not many people used it, and it was prone to having some server side bugs.

How about a "Shout" box instead?

Yeah, I am still looking for a decent chat client for our site as well. Hmm... perhaps we can find something that both GAGT and 60V6 could use concurrently. Don't think it'd be able to have a list on the main page of who is in the chat, but might be more people involved. I know we have tried out a couple of different setups and they get used initially, and then about 1-2 weeks later, they are all but dead.

You guys can try this chat software. Its done on ASP and your forum is done on PHP. Don't know if your server allows you to run ASP and PHP at the same time

IIRC ASP no workie on our linux server. I think that requires a MS box.

Hi Jeremy; I didn't know what server you guys run. I just sugested that chat room because my box lets me run ASP, ASP.NET, PHP, ColdFusion and I use that chat room for some of my clients.

I'll see if I can find one for linux.

I have been messing around with one that "could" work for both site, although I don't think it could pick names automatically from both forums. In fact, I haven't even gotten it to pick the names of the users from our forum yet. Just really don't have the time to devote to it right now.

There is always an IRC channel that could be set up as well. I haven't done it ever, but I have been involved in a few before. It might be a possibility. Would require the users to have software (such as mIRC or similar), which might not be ideal.

iceman
12-23-2006, 02:38 PM
Well, the benefit of a chat running off the site is for slackers like myself that hop on at work.. irc traffic 9 times out of 10 isn't allowed out corporate firewalls

bszopi
12-23-2006, 02:56 PM
Exactly. That is why I am trying to find something else instead.

Ajaxus

you can run a flash irc chat client off of the internet to connect to your irc server/room. about a year ago tomh and i set one up for gmtuners, i could see if i can pull it back up and start working on tweaks for it.

we set it up in mIRC but i'm sure with one of the flash or java versions online we can get it all setup.

there is an option in the "edit signature" to add a picture, yet every time I try to upload, it says "unable to save". My picture is 3.9kb and 99 x 42... whats up?

As far as the chat goes...

http://client4.addonchat.com/sc.php?id=174903

We can try this for alittle while. It is currently the "free" version. If enough people start to use it and such, it is possible to upgrade and pay for a more advanced version which can be integrated better into vbulletin (including auto-logins and seeing who is in the chat room). We can test it for now and if people like it, then we can discuss upgrading.

I'm going to try to be in there all night (pending the kids), if anyone wants to stop by. Jeremey, if you are interested, I can give you a template file which will allow you to embed the chat into the site. Its pretty simple and doesn't have to be anything permanent... Let me know.

I am curious about the trader rating too, where did that go?

bszopi
01-04-2007, 06:34 PM
The hack might not have been released for the new version of vB. There were significant changes between what GAGT was running and what they are running now, and many hacks are not backwards compatible.

LoboMan7409
01-04-2007, 06:46 PM
well what are the big differences, I havent noticed anything but multiquote

bszopi

It has to do alot with the coding, not just the look. I was actually very suprised that the guys here were able to update the site in such a short amount of time.

yea, it must be, no issues here.

bszopi

Ok, a mod can split this if they want to...

I went ahead and got a month of the premium service to allow for integration in at least 60V6.com. It should be able to be integrated in other forums as well, although I'm not sure if the "Who's online" function will work on multiple sites, as it appears there is only one site I can add in the control panel. Anyway, I also set up a couple of rooms. Currently, there is a main Lobby, then there is a 60V6 Chat as well as a GAGT Chat.

You can currently access the chat by one of the following links:
