i have a 2001 GAGT with just over 186,000 on it. (my daily driver) would like to possible do some engine modifications but don't know if it's even worth it on this engine. just looking for some opinions, but would i be better of getting a newer engine on ebay before doing my mods? engine doesn't leak anything, compression is still good. looking to add headers, exhaust, cai, dhp maybe more....thanks for any input

with that many miles you would be a fool to add engine modifications. save your money or get a new engine.

I wouldn't do anymore then just a simple WAI and exhaust.

That makes three of us. But congratulations on having a GT for that long with out blowing it up

Well... I have a 99GA and I have the same amount of miles and I have more than a couple mods on my car and the car still runs fine.

i spent memorial day weekend last summer replacing all the gaskets (LIM leak), put in new pushrods, new thermostat, couple of new fuel injectors--all in all i think it took be about 25 hours of time but i sured learned alot. hasn't leaked at all since then and has been running great. put a new suspension on it in june, lowered it, put on new wheels since my OEM wheels were beat to hell.

i have 172K mi on the clock right now and ive only had 1 lim leak at about 162K, so i guess im lucky. welcome to the forum

also i plan on major modding mine, and havent had any issues yet with anything. if you have the skill, or can learn the skill, the tools and a descent place to work, have at it

If the engine is in good shape, and it sounds like it is, the miles don't really matter. As long as your tranny is still in good shape, as well as the rest of the car, you should be able to mod away with no problems!

That being said, with that many miles, if you want to do some serious mods (heads, cam, headers, etc), I would have the engine professionally rebuilt.

im gonna jump on the train with matt on this one if the car is still strong, knock yourself out. and like he said, if you're gonna go with more agressive mods look at a professional rebuild so you can get the most out of it.
