A question about the silencer system under the dash.

Out of simple curiousity I went poking around underneath my dashboard and found the slot where this "silencer" key goes. Only thing is I never got a key for it. I figured it must've gotten lost by one of it's previous owners. (I'm the third.) So what exactly does this do? And how do I get a key for it?

Well I did a search about "Underneath dashboard" and that is what I found it was called on a post. The Silencer system. It's like a little slot right below my steering column.

they are talking about an aftermarket alarm system where theres a box under your steering column that requires a computer chip (or a key with a chip on it) to be put in place in order to start the car.

the slot that you found was the OBD II plug. thats where you plug in to clear engine codes or reprogram the computer.
