fuel pump?

when I turn the key I'm not hearing the fuel pump. It cranks and cranks. When I stop cranking the fuel pump runs till I turn the key off.
any idea's

Update: Now the Pump comes on before I try to start the car but will not turn off till I turn the key off. Hope this helps.

pull out a spark plug and see if theres' fuel on it, that'll tell you for sure if its running ok
