I have a 99GT, and when I start the car the car rpms wants to go up to 2500-3500 rpms, when I usually start the car, it will be at 600, but lately it wants to idel really high and when driving the cars rpms want to stay around 3000 or so. I think it is the throttle body sticking but not sure. I cleaned the throttle body with some spray and wiped it down really good. When i mess with the cable and throttle body it will usually go back down, but the rpms dont stay down long. Is it the throttle body, or could it be something else. Any help what to do would help.

He meant the TPS sensor.

what is a tps sensor, and if I had the car scanned, would it show the tps sensor?

TPS = Throttle Position Sensor.
It lets the computer know how much throttle is applied by the driver. If it's defective the car will run at odd rpm's just like your describing. Sometimes this will show a trouble code, sometimes not. But usually when the problem your describing happens, it's from the TPS. The TPS is located on the opposite side of the throttle body from the throttle cable connection. There is a 3 wire connector on it.

Where is the best place to buy a tps? How much do they usually run?

Local auto parts store like NAPA or Autozone. Don't quote me on this, but I think they cost around $10. But I have'nt bought one in some time.
