I was checking my oil today at the gas station and noticed this:

Is that the infamous LIM leak? I looked at the stickied tutorial, but the pictures are no longer being hosted.

The other weird thing is that there was coolant on top of that fat coolant hose on the picture's right side (driver's side). I checked to see whether it was cracked or cut, but I didn't see anything.

Yea thats the spot it leaks but there will always be a little seepage going on at least that is what I was told. Id keep an eye on the coolant level for sure though.

Is there any way to tell whether it's normal or whether it's something to be concerned about? When I checked the oil, the oil looked fine (it wasn't milky), meaning it's not mixing with the oil, right?

Yea if the oil has a milky look to it then you need to stop driving the car ASAP. Id check it every few days or so just to make sure.

Just so you know it will only get worse and will have to be replaced eventually.

What causes it to leak like that?

thats a little more than the normal seepage i would say...
if you dont do it now, i would def do it soon. like bballer said, keep an eye on the oil and coolant until you can get it changed.

What causes it to leak like that?

Basically the gaskets just slow disappear...i think it has something to do with the dex cool

THATS NOT IT!!!

It has to do with the properties of the LIM and heads and how they heat and cool down differently. Plus the fact that the gasket GM used was a POS.

If it was dexcool every single place on the engine would leak.
