Hey guys, buddy of mine just picked up a '97 GAGT for $100.

The problem is that it's got a blown headgasket (2.4 twin cam). It's also missing the thermostat (looks like it had an overheating problem). I'm looking for any information or how-to's on replacing the headgasket in this thing. Is it pretty straight forward?

We're hoping the head isn't warped or cracked as well. The car is in pretty good shape that's why we're saving it from the junk yard.

Thanks for any help,
Dave

Be warned before spending more money on it.
(Unless, you are a mechanic or have buddies that are mechanics.)

When you change the Thermostat on a 2.4L Twin Cam engine:
You might as well change the water pump & the timing chain tensioner thing.
You are looking at like 6-hours labour book rate, right there.
Because you have to open up the side of the engine with the timing chain.

& that doesn't include the blown head gasket repair; & any related damage by it.

Might be better to put in another 2.4L Twin Cam engine.

oh i have no fear when it comes to engines...

I've built and rebuilt my fair share and my buddy has been a mechanic for a long time as well. We've seen some pretty bad stuff. lol

Thanks for the info!
