Well, my DHP tuner will be here in a week or so and cannot wait to get going on it. I have been doing alot "ALOT" of reading. I have noticed though that the DHP forum which is full of information and such but not alot geared towards the 3400 as opposed to the 3800.

My plan is to:

1. Get LTFT and STFT in line
2. VE tune
3. MAF tune

Just trying to gather some info from more 3400's owners and what you started with.

Actually if you do VE then MAF tuning correctly, your LTFT and STFT values will be in order. Read through JerryH's tuner notebook. It explains everything you need to know. Don't be put off by all the 3800 references. When your experience with tuning grows you'll learn that PCM tuning is more a process than engine specific. So in general it really doesn't make a difference if you have a 3100, 3400, 3500 or 3800. The process is still the same.

I just got access to that site from Jerry, it seems like a great how-to site.

Yeah, there's a lot of info there. It can be a little overwhelming but just take it a step at a time. Like Andy said it's a process.

How many times did you do your VE tune and MAF tune?

First time I started VE tuning was when the process was first discussed. I spent about a month doing it, mainly because I just got lazy with my tuning. In reality it only takes about half to a full day depending on mods. MAF tuning takes even less time when you know what your doing. But don't rush it, it pays to take your time to get a good quality tune.

Also I DO NOT recommend staying in SD mode for over a month. Your transmission will not like it.

You guys use a special tuning program for VE and MAF.

Seems to work well?

Yes the special "tuning program" does do a great job in making corrections. Next time please don't call it out by name.
