Hello, I used to own a GAGT 2 years go, 99 4dr GT had the basic mods done, i am looking to buy a new one. Am wondering what people feel is the best year to buy? I will be looking at getting the pcm from pfyc, CAI, and headers/exhaust. I like 2 door. Do you think those mods could put a GT in the 14's hi/mid/lo
Thank you

Personally, after owning a 2000, a 2001, and a 2003...I like the 2001 the best...but mine is a 75th anniversary with special emblems and the chrome wheels. I got rid of the '00 and '03 and kept the '01

I think they're all about the same....not a lot of difference in the '99 to '04 range..a few hood scoops are about it, so just about anyone is great

And one more thing..I would be VERY careful modding the 3400 engine of the GAGT..it's pretty quick stock, but also pretty crappy..I put CAI and high performance spark plugs on mine for a week and blew the engine with every day driving....I can't really say whether you will make the 14's or not..but I can say that the CAI and plugs took a little off my low end but I could see a significant increase in the top end in the 1/4 mile, 2-4 mph faster

Welcome, look around at the member's gallery and see which car year you like the best, there's tones of pictures there.

personally i think you just have some sh!tty luck, because we've got several members pushing 250+hp out of the 3400 (which is far more than a measly CAI and plugs mods) and haven't blown it yet.

as for the original poster, the engine can handle that just fine, but it won't get you into the 14's just yet, there's alot more work to be done and i'd do some researching on here.

as for best year, there really isn't one because GM didn't exactly change much year to year, it'll probably come down to what car you find with the least mileage for the best deal and that's the way to go.

do some searching around on here, good info is abound and you can find out just how to hit those 14's if you look in the right places.

btw, welcome.

I owned an 89, 95, 00 and 01 GAGT. I liked the 01 the best and wasn't impressed with the 02+ wheels. They are all pretty much the same. Go for a G6 instead.

I would have to say '03.5 or later because the LIM problem was "fixed" and you shouldn't have to worry about that. If you buy a pre-2003, check and see if the LIM has been replaced - and if not, check the antifreeze for signs of a leak. Other than that, all the changes throughout the years are fairly minor.

thanks for all the reply's. I like the 03 2 door with the hood scoops. I'd like red then paint front ram air holes titanium silver and the bottom of front fascia, as well as the piece between the exhaust ( did that on my other GA and loved the way it looked ) ... theres alot of 03's avialable around her. I knew they where for the most part the same but just wanted to make sure.

like most others have said, there aren't many changes year to year the most noticable are the exterior differences.. new wheels, sc/t package, mickey mouse mirrors, fasicas and molding for the SE.. i've owned a 99 and now have a 2000.. they're about the same..

as for those mods, i had what you listed minus the PCM and pulled 15.195.. hoping to hit 14s after i added DHP and a FFP pulley..

if the lim was indeed fixed on the later years, then def. dont consider anything but those years. Too bad they didnt ever do anything with the window regulators and all that other shyt.

Well i have a 2000 GAGT, love it, but like everyone else has said not much difference in anything on em. The only thing i rele know is if u wanna put a system in it, go for the 2000, after that year they are such a bitch to have a system in em cus u gotta bypass the stock amp and such. I never had to do that, a buddy of mine that posts on here every once in a while, whent thro all that bypassin bull**** and he's got an 01, i never had to do any of that. But other than the system stuff, id go with about any year, just make sure u try and find 1 with low miles if possible, then itll last a lot longer.

Well if we are strictly talking about what is available from the factory, I want to say 02.5 or newer is probably the best. That was when SC/T package came out. Of course, you can buy the hood and the spoiler separately, but it's a lot nicer to have it installed from the factory. I DO like the newer distinctive GT torqued chrome rims on 02+ GA's, especially when SE's started recieving older 5-star GT chrome rims.

01+ Monsoon is probably a better factory audio system.

GM started being cheap on newer models too. I think either 02.5 or 03, they omitted the glove box lock and the driver seat lumbar control.

Newer models definitely have better LIM gaskets, like someone mentioned.

hmm, so 03.5 or later means cars that are 2004? I have a 2003 pontiac ga, so I think Mine was made in 2002...

No, they're still 2003 model years - basically just anything that was actually made in 2003 (they started production of 2003 MY in 2002 like you said) - the easiest way to spot it is when you open the hood, you will notice the wire from the alternator comes off the top. Makes it a pain for strut tower bars, but can be done.

Also, like AznGA said, they did start cheaping out a little on the later models - no glove box lock, Mickey Mouse ears (unpainted alero mirrors), no lumbar, etc. But they did make some improvements - torqued chrometech rims, Monsoon audio, mp3 deck, better LIM gaskets, SCT Package, and of course the best part - Fusion Orange Metallic baby! :D

2004 GAGT sedan FTW, last year for it. Also has most of the 99+ bugs worked and all the latest tranny parts.

But they did make some improvements ...- torqued chrometech rims
I think most people would disagree that they were an improvement. :thumbsdow

I for one hate the torqued chrometechs. The old star shaped chrometechs were the best looking rims honestly on any pontiac IMO... only problem was they were only available in 16 inch... if they had 17 or 18 inch versions of these rims they'd be perfect. But still no doubt the starshaped chrometechs were the best.

I don't mind my new torqued chrometechs. Because it is GT exclusive. I hate how the newer SE's received older GT rims.

But anyway, I agree with the stock rim size being too small. GM put 16" rims on all of their cars: our N-Body, J-Body and even bigger W-Body. 17" should have been the standard for the GA GT.

Yeah that was really my only complaint on how my car looked. I drive an '04 cavalier with factory chrometechs on it now, and just like the GA only 16 inch, but on the smaller J-body, 16 inch doesn't look too bad, in fact it looks pretty much just right.

oh and i agree it sucks how the SE's got the old GT rims. Kinda took away from the exclusive "GT" look
