any chance we could use the rep system VB has? Have it on another forum and it is kinda fun. Hopefully people could use it as is. you either give + or _ if you choose, but try not to get into threads promoting rep orgies just to give each other high rep scores.

I've found, just like post count, rep scores generally do let you know who are considerable contributors to the site.

yea i had this on one of my old music forums, def a way to let you know who contributes and who doesn't...as long as people aren't childish about it atleast

Im on a tech support forum. It works very well...but key word is 'abuse'.

Ajaxus
04-10-2007, 12:04 PM
we're using it on myg6 and i know i mentioned it briefly on here, i think it would be great.

if people abuse it then all it takes is a simple screen shot sent to a mod/admin and problem resolved. most people don't abuse it though.

there are actually a lot of things this forum could add to make it more fun. sports icons, gifts to say thanks, just cool stuff like that.

Ask and ya'll receive. if it gets out of hand, report to an admin/moderator.

Thank you, Jeremy.

Now people. Lets try and use this with some fricken maturity! DO NOT BlTCH whenever someone gives you negative rep. Meaning, don't complain to a mod every single time. Take it like a man or woman and move on. Also, don't give out + or - just for the hell of it. If someone says something you agree with in AAG or somewhere else, or helps with info on mods/pricing/etc. Give them their props. If acting like a douche, neg. them. You will only be able to give out multiple rep to the same person once you have spread it around enough. So don't think you will sit there and bring them down.

Since I brought it up I thought I would put that info here. I think that should be a good rule base for those who are not familiar with it.

How does this rep. system work? I haven't seen it on the other forums I visit.

click the balance scale under the users post count on the post that you like, or do not like. A window will pop up. select approve or disapprove. Then write a comment if you would like. The more +rep that person gets, the more little green squares they will get under their user profile. The more -rep they get the more red blocks they will have. Anyone can give any other person a rep for a post. So if I see someone helped another person out, I can give them some +rep just because I like that they helped them...made fun of an idiot :D ... etc.. If you go to your UserCp you can see who left the rep, whether it was pos. or neg., and their comments.

EDIT: I don't want a freebie here, so don't do it, because begging for rep is queer. It's like making your own Happy Birthday thread. But anyway, this type of post would be something you would want to give +rep for. you asked a question, someone tried to help, so you give them some love.

Not sure how I missed this thread, but I was about to ask what "A" and "B" were, but Bob answered that... maybe I should give him a "+"...maybe not though...lol

Also, I vote to rename them "E-cookies" and "E-Dookies" for positive and negative respectively. Thoughts?

is there a new tab in user cp to view this or is it under a current tab? and can others see comments that were left or just the little green and red squares?

Gizm0815

also why when you highlight the green tab does it say ____ is on a distinguished road?

they cannot see them

it changes with the rep level. its just a little something to show the level more.

when you get more positive reps that will change, the same goes for negative reps. it more or less defines how helpful you are, and the higher or lower you go, the more tabs appear (negative tabs are red, positive tabs are green).

Is there anyway to change the color of the dot to help out us color blind folk?

u mean dark gray and light gray arent good enough for you?

AMRAAM4

If someone has a dark gray/light gray dot under their post count, or in the rep comment list under USerCP...then that means the person the gray dot is associated with has their rep system shut off.

I have a rep from ryanbgb22 and it is gray, thus it is a neutral rep.

No, I don't know how to fix it, I imagine it is in your user profile or user options list to turn it on or off

Yea its good that the only colors that mess me up are green/red. lol

I looked in the user CP but couldnt find any options to change the color. I might not be looking in the right place though.

there are none to change color, only turn the rep system for yourself on/off.

P.S. where did you read I said you could look to change colors?!?!?!

Here's a breakdown of the current (default) Reputation settings. We can tweak as much or as little as we want with both the level and the titles.

just roll your mouse over the tab, the words that pop up will be enough to know if the person is helpful or hurtful in their rank/posts on here.

On topic, can we lower the amount of rep then? That's quite a lot of reppin' I'd have to do to technically have a reputation beyond repute.

(I volunteer to rename all the categories!)

I just don't see this catching on... Most people who aren't useful don't stick around here long enough for people to wonder whether they are helpful or not- or they are like me and just stick around to post whore lol

But fo-real, I just think its easier to quote the person and say "I agree" than taking the effort to rate them and whatnot. Cute idea, though.

you'd be surprised how well it works..it has to be around for awhile to be effective, but in the end it really helps ALOT.

i think rep system should be a perk for premium members. might be another way to get some more people to go premium. since i think a majority of the people who will use the rep are either already premium or frequent users who have yet to go premium.

its just a thought.

Ajaxus
04-12-2007, 09:07 PM
how would it be a perk? it tells everyone if you're helpful or not..if somebody doesn't have the rep system then we, and others that visit, can't tell if they are helpful or not.

sorry, just wouldn't work that way, all or none.

no, this type of system cannot be used effectively just for a small percentage of a website.

Why are people bitching?? If you don't like it, don't use it. It costs nothing and is not intrusive.

Maybe if people would start using it, then it would help point out the clueless folks who have brought this community down to near r1cer-dom

So does every start at 10 rep points ?

& what increments does it work in ?
(Example: does 1 positive rep = 1 rep point ?)

yes

your point go up/down according to whomever gave you the rep. If they have a lot of rep, you get more points. If they have a lot of negative it doesn't really move at all up.
