What are peoples' experiences with high wattage bulbs (higher than stock 55/65)? Ive got a set of Nokya's, not yet installed, that are 80/100. My wiring harness isnt working, so im worried bout puttin these babies in. Ive noticed a lot of you have farenheit, or other higher wattage bulbs. Any damage? How long have you had them? Thanks everyone!

I had the Noyka artic whites in my car using the stock wiring harness. I never had a problem with them, but I know some people on this site have with frying their harness, which isn't cheap to replace. I hope you have good fog lights if you got the artic whites because I couldn't see **** without my fogs.

2 things-

higher watt bulbs will fry harnesses....I ended up hard-wiring the bulbs into the car cuz I was sick of replacing harnesses.

Harnesses are $50 at the dealer but only $1.50 at Murrays... :rage: AND THE ONES AT MURRAYS HAVE THICKER WIRES!!!!

How did you hard wire them? Im looking for a solution here, that dumb apc harness obviously isnt gonna help me.

I just by-pass the harness. I run the wire coming from the car straight into the back of the bulb useing some female connectors to connect to the "tabs" on the bulb...

No problems since I did that.

Well, this is my first "mod day" in a long time that everythign that ive done has worked right the first time! My new "high watt wiring kit" from ecap is up and running perfectly, and so are my new led turn signals. Awesome! Thanks for the help.

 Good job brother! Just be sure that you put the right wires to the right tabs and that ahould take care of it!!

Well, it worked for a minute. Put the new bulbs in, and blue a headlight fuse. Now nothing works, even after I fixed the fuse. Nothing EVER goes right the first time! EVER!!! Im of course worried, and frustrated, cause now I dont have headlights.

you put the wrong wire on the wrong tab....I did that too....just take your time and check 'em again.:(

Ive checked them about 10 times, they are right. Im going to buy more connectors as soon as my girlfriend shows up with her car, so I can keep trying... I swear im gonna have a heart attach before im 25! Stress!

um...I forgot to tell ya to wrap each female connector with electrical tape so that they don't touch....did you do that?

look at the HID install how-to, the pinouts of the 9007 connector are there

*If the wires were touching each other serious damage may occur*

All right dude. I'm going home for the day...I hope it works out for you!!

This stinks! Here is what happens:

1. The pas side bulb immediately comes on, like normal, while the drivers side one slowly comes on
2. When i flip on the high beams, both bulbs slowly dim down to almost nothing
3. If i dont turn them off, a headlight fuse blows, and the drivers side bulb goes out.

GRRRRRR!!!! Simple little thing, and its taking me two days. I dont think the connectors were touching (they have the nice rubber insulators). Ive tried every combination, but the drivers side bulb doesnt want to do anything lately. I even went and bought a new bulb.

Im really starting to get upset about the way our cars are put together. Why wont my drivers side light up without the pas side bulb working? That little stuff is wierd. My pas side works now, but the high beam doesnt do a frigging thing. The driver's side bulb wont light at all, no matter what combination of wires i use (I know ive been doing it properly, ive got the old harnesses infront of me to show me where to put my wires). So, tomorrow morning ill be trying to slap my oem harnesses back on, by hooking the wires (or whats left of them) back up. Ruins a perfectly good day...

High wattage bulbs always make your high beams.....screwey. I have both mine hard wired right now and they work fine with 80/100 bulbs....Are you SURE you have the right wires to the right pins? Remember the left side is not the same as the right side....it is a "mirror" image of how the wires should be.......i think. It took me a while to get them up and running properly...in the end I was just mixing and matching connections till I found how to make it work properly on my pass. side.....Mybe you have to wire it wrong to make it work right:confused:

But using the harnesses isn't too bad. I did for a year....I bought about 5 harnesses and had to replace about one a month...always on the same side too...GOOD LUCK DUDE!!

Well, what I did to make sure that i was connecting the right wires is this:
When I cut off the oem harness, I left a good inch and a half of wire on em. So, when I plug in the new wires, I had the harnesses sitting right infront of me to show me which wires go where. Ive got a space heater going in the garage right now to warm it up a bit, then ill be out there, again. Ill wrap the entire female connector in elec tape before I try to re-install the harnesses. Is that what you did ecap? Or did you just wrap the ends? Im talking about wrapping the part that actually goes over the connector in the bulb.

And what do you mean by screwey? Your high beams work fine?

Wierd thing though, It does the same thing with my silverstars. Im gonna go to a napa and get some new connector thigns and try to install my oem harnesses, as soon as another vehicle gets home for me to use. Dont see why that wouldnt work, although it probably wont. Car projects have turned me into quite the pessemist.

Now ive just gotta aim the damn things. My pass side one is perfect, but the drivers side one goes way to the right, and way high. I brought it down a bit, but now it sticks way out from the side of the car. Also, I cant get it to come back left. I hate headlights...

I thought aiming our headlights was really easy!??

I've never had a problem, course they've never been really far off...but if you just remember inside is horizontal and outside's vertical and go from there, I didn't think it was too hard.

Is nice to have a back road that you can stop on and adjust them. :)

when you are trying to aim the lights, can you tell that they are being adjusted by a couple turns or do you have to turn for a while?

Rba007

Prolly more than a couple turns, and the inside "horizontal aimer" does effect the vert aiming as well, which is what makes things such a PITA. The vert aimer also effects the horizontal aspect a bit as well. Ive got it under control though, although my high beams are still pointed in the trees...

Is that with your silverstars...

It's cuz the focal point of the bulb is aimed higher, there's really nothing you can do with that.

On a little side note:
I have the Nokya Artic Whites 80/100w (almost a year now) and love them. I've never had any problems with the harnesses, probably because I used dielectric grease on the terminals. I also have no problems seeing with them. In fact, you can't hardly tell when I turn my fogs on or off from inside the car (except the pattern gets yellower). I think its a matter of precise aiming. I aimed mine down slightly to avoid getting flashed. I had an S10 with Silverstars and got flashed nightly. Not the good kind of flashed :nono: Have fun fellas.
