Hey all! im looking into getting some sort of tire detailer for the GA but i was told that after using it, it would eat some of the rubber away on the tires and cause it to look like **** unless you re-apply the detailer.
also, i live on a dirt road, so would i just be beating a dead horse by using detailer on it?

the living on a dirt road thing really sucks. but you can still clean your tires. pick up some tire cleaner, and a scrub brush. i dont mean tire shine, i mean tire cleaner. once you clean all 4 tires then you can apply the shine. if you want the shine to last a long time, Meg's High Endurance is very good.

you'll need a sponge or something like that to apply it. its like a thin mapple syrup.
next thing i use alot is Turtle Wax's Platnum. its got about the best shine i've seen but only lasts about a week. which is cool for me, cause i wash about every week.

also on living on a dirt road, i'd do all of this somewhere else. at a self serve car wash, or anywhere else i can get my hands on a hose. then i'd make 100% sure the tire shine is dry before going back down the dirt road. otherwise a ton of dirt will stick to the tires. hell dirt is still going to stick to them, just not as bad if there dry.
oh also that Turtle Wax stuff is the only stuff that i use thats Turtle Wax. its some of the best shine i have ever seen, and i've tried about everything. its a better shine then Megs, Armoral, No Touch, Black Magic, and god only knows what else i've tried.

I like Black Magic's shine, but I may have to try Turtle Wax next time.

Stay away from Zaino Tire Shine. It is the one Zaino product that sucks. I can't believe I wasted my money on rebottled Armor-all

got any reccomendations for tire cleaner? just car wash soap with a brush work? or is it more technical than that?
I use Meguiars Hot Shine tire gel and I love it but it takes a little longer than the spray or foam so I'd rather use the foam.
You can use the car wash soap or even better tire cleaner. Either one will get the tires clean but of course the tire cleaner is specifically for tires. And of course I would recommend Meguiars!

you can use a high concentration of car wash soap and a scrub brush, but tire cleaner will work best with a scrub brush. only one i ever used was Megs' NXT tire cleaner. its kinda hard to find though. pretty much any tire cleaner will do about the samething.

Listen to metallman56, he has his info right for sure.
Personaly i would NOT use a tire shine if i lived on a dirt road.
Whoever told you tire shine or tire cleaner will eat your tires...smack them in the mouth, they dont know what they are talking about.

Ya i wouldnt bother. The moment you take off down the road all that sand and dust is going to stick right to the tire shine. You would have a nice brown ring all the way around the outside of the sidewall.

Don't remind me. Went to a buddies place last weekend and had to take a gravel road..... rest of the car is clean, I just have 2-tone tires ;crap

Actually i use them for the ease of use.
Easier to get into lettering and raised areas.
Easier to clean out.
Easier to get uniform coverage.
Alot faster than a tire swipe.
I agree i am pretty obsessive lol

I've been having bad luck with the applicator pads, I might want to try the paint brush idea. What size/style do you use?

i hate that stupid foam thing...it just clumps the gel on the tire and it slides right off just like tire foam/spray. ;crap

I have a bunch of different sizes for different sized tires.
I bought a bunch of them at harbor freight for dirty cheap.
Damn I never thought of a paint brush. I use a foam applicator but a brush would be a lot easier. Your right with the brush you can get into the lettering and you have more control of where the gel goes.

And if you're lowered it sucks with the foam pads.
