Has anyone ever installed an Eaton SuperCharger on a 99-00 with the California/NY emissions? If so does it have to be removed???

maybe...jaketuff???

Well I live in California and just having a CAI my car wouldnt pass... So I'd guess with all the things associated with a SC, Upgrading the fuel system, the intake, exhaust mods, etc etc etc, it wont pass.

You aren't going to the right places if your CAI doesn't pass. lol

Check out my list of mods and I passed with flying colors

Paul- PM luked. He just finished tuning his EM S/C about 4-5 months ago here in CA.

I'll be dealing with this issue soon. It's either find a friend in the inspection business or keep the car registered in PA. Only problem is the inspection requirements for PA but I don't think CA troopers would bother me for that.

no...I'm not talking about actual emissions testing/inspections....some 99-00 GA's came with extra CA/NY emissions crap added to the car as seen here above my headers:

So my ??? is wether or not an E/M super charger will fit with this still on there or would it have to be removed???

You can remove the AIR system and it wont cause harm to the car at all. Many and I mean many LS1 vehicles have done it. Just so you know it was only the year 2000 that they came out with it. Horrible experiment.

but you can't remove it on a california car as it would immediately make the car fail.

Then how does any other year 3400 pass??

If I remember NY/NJ emission laws correctly, you can't alter/remove/attempt to defeat the emissions controls as provided by car manufacturer. If emissions inspections are done by the letter of the law, removing the AIR system would result in an inspection failure notice. As I recall, NY has two inpection stickers - one for the general vehicle inspection, and a separate special sticker just for the emisssions test. It was a real PITA. No such thing in VA....

well. mine also wouldnt pass with the CAI so i drove it to another place and they guy "didnt see it" ha. it does depend where u go though. my friend took his car to some shop and paid them $300 to automatically pass.(it was heavily modded.) though he got stoped a couple months later and they made him pop the hood. He got sent to inspections and they made him remove all until it was pretty much stock lol:amraam:

NY only has 1 sticker....I guess if I was to remove it I'd probably have to get DHP tuner and remove it from the PCM also so it doesn't throw a code....I'm guessing???

It won't set the SES but I think it does throw a DTC so you just have to disable that with PT .. yes . Only the 2000's had that so I doubt they will know that piece of trivia

When we did the vortech s/c on Rob's car (2000 and in NY) we just took that air **** out, it didn't do anything bad. As for inspection you'd have to ask him.

with your car anyways I would have thought you would have the lick and stick hookup overthere :)

the other years have different requirements, as they were configured with different emissions requirements and GM found different ways to make the standard. You basically are stuck running around w/ the specific emissions devices found on your specific model year.

If you do a motor swap, it has to be from the same car, of the same year or newer. if you end up using a newer motor it has to have all the new emissions crap related to that motor.

There ya go.

So what did you guys remove exactly....all piping and the pump??? Did you guys just throw bolts in the holes left in the motor??

I have a decent hook up but he still has to connect it to the DMV computer that checks for codes :meh: and links it to the registered vehicle....I HATE NY DMV!!!

I ran mine with and without the air pump. It really does very little for the emissions system except for RAW cold starts. Which you see hardly any of in CA, compared to NY.

I took it off the car altogether and had no codes at all. There was a modded set of connecting tubes back to the heads to get the EM to fit over this system for the 2000+ NY/CA cars. I didn't use it and just bent the OEM to allow room for the SC.

Keep the air pump and maybe leave it there for visual if they are that deeply anal in CA. With or without it the car will run fine and will likely not set DTCs.
