My buddy is slightly considering selling his 1987 Mazda RX7. It's got 108k, new clutch master cylinder, ADR wheels/BF Goodrich tires, recent tune-up, 6 way adjustable shocks in the back, 4 way's in the front, and a few other misc. things.

He wants about $3500. So, numero uno, should I? And numero dos, Is that a fair price? I realize after market stuff makes no difference to car value, and if anything lowers it, so my question really is, should I go for it? I think it would be kick ass to have an RX7, but idk.

Just wondering as I have no experience with Mazda's...

Unless you have a fetish for the rotary engine, stay far, far away from it. Buy it from him, clean it up and make it look pretty, then sell it to some RX nut for 5g's.

I dont know how big your town is but here in Calgary (which is a pretty damn big city) theres prolly 1 guy that will work on a rotary

also the 1987 model is kinda ugly in my opinion

Yea the 87 isnt the most appealing to teh eye thats for sure. If you have to had a rotary it doesnt sound too bad but he might be asking a lil too much.

rotaries make ton of power but damn they are a pain in the ass.. i've raced a LS1 powered RX7 that gen... and it was running clean low 13s on street tires no mods besides the swap... stock skinny tires no traction lol

apex seals are the weak link...they wear too fast, not too mention 99% of machine shops are not equiped to work on em. I tooled with rx3s and 1st gen 7s way back in the day...built wankels make good power above 12000 rpm and are fast in a very light car.. but are very hard on parts and expensive to keep running. Edit: ugh!!! This i a freggin 7 year old post!!!! Got me
