View Full Version : My Car's Warranty?

Hi.
I bought my Pontiac Grand Am [used] from a Pontiac dealership last year. It's a 2005 Pontiac Grand Am, but it with under 20,000 miles on it. I also bought an extended warranty for 3 years for an extra $1,500.
They just told me that if I "increased horsepower" in any way, my warranty would be void. Is this true? Does this make sense? I can see if I altered the engine in anyway, but right now I've only put a cold-air intake and cat-back exhaust system on my car.
Please let me know. I think what I have done is okay, but I wanted to get the DHP PCM for my vehicle, but they told me altering the engine/brain will void it also because it strains the shift points?
Please explain.

read up on the magnuson/moss act
http://www.impalaclub.com/naisso/magmoss.htm
basically they cant void your warrenty unless it is proven that the aftermarket part actually caused the problems to the vehicle...you can read up on it more with the link I provided
also somebody else can back me up on this, but i think i am right

The only downside to this is if you can prove that your modifications are not in any way detrimental to the car. If you're not sure what your mods do or don't do then then you're sure to be hosed by a dealership.
As for the PCM, your best choice would be to keep a OEM spare one handy and swap it when taking your GA in.
How often do you take your GA anyways for this to be a major consideration?

one of my friends with a ford had a chip in his and when he wold take the truck in he would take it out so they would not see it but they would read his computer and see he was driving faster than the stock limiter and voided his warranty

He could have fought that easy. Limiters are set for the rating of the tire not becuase the vehicle cant handle it.
