So, i have an '05 monte carlo ls.. with a 3400 sfi that i want to get turbo charged. Don't ask why i didn't get the 3800 block that's still a soft spot. but now that i have it might as well put a lttle turbo in it right? does anyone already have a good set up for the 3400 already?

There is no "kit" out for the 3400. You'll have to basically pick a reasonable turbo and fab the parts to make it work.

There should be threads on stuff like this so see what a search pops up.

3400 is just as good if not better than the 3800 IMO so don't beat yourself up over it. It has a better cylinder head design and aluminum instead of iron heads, and it's more detonation resistant and gets better fuel mileage. It's also a lighter engine and leaves more room in the engine bay.

It's plenty capable of making good power too. Just not as many people have done it yet because there aren't any kits on the market that you can just slap on and go. As stated you will have to piece together your own kit. The parts are available though and we have the ability to tune them. You will just have to do some searching.

Thank for the confidence boost...
Sorry I've been away a couple of days searching and researching. I think it'll be pretty far down the line before i actually get boosted (low on the cash end right now). If you have a second.. check out this website it allows you to put in your vehicle and it throws a whole bunch of turbos at you that may or may not fit your car. i figure someone on here may know if this site is giving accurate information or is just filling people with pipe dreams. www.sportcompactonly.com (http://www.sportcompactonly.com/Chevrolet/Monte-Carlo/Turbochargers/Forced-Induction/Performance/performance-parts_c-197_vt-219.htm)

In the meantime.. i think i'll work on the rest of the car so i don't blow my engine.. right now its stock so i figure the best first upgrade is an slp catback exhaust.

hey if anyone's looking for a race treated 4t65e tranny i found this website
www.tripleedgeperformance.com (http://www.tripleedgeperformance.com/Transmission.php)
in my research i started getting concerned for my transmission too

peace

i dont know if im right or not, but wouldnt supercharging be easier?

a supercharger may be easier in some cases, but it puts more wear on the belt since its driven that way. however, they do make some sort of under-drive pulley to ease the pressure put on the belt, or that it makes the supercharger turn at a faster rate than the speed the belt is turning at.
a turbo would require more custom work since there isnt any made specific for the 3400. so basically, you are gonna have to think about what you want

That's a pretty good idea. There are plenty of other things you can do to help the performance that will help after you start doing engine mods. None of us will be interested in a race prepped 4T65E tranny though since our cars use 4T45E's. ;)

Not really considering you can't get the eaton kit and the RSM kit is overpriced and has lots of problems. Your only SC option then is custom, and a custom turbo is both easier and cheaper than either a custom SC or the RSM SC kit.

Um, where are you coming from? That's totally wrong. The SC won't make a bit of difference to the belt. It's just another pulley for the engine to turn and it uses some hp but it won't wear the belt any faster. Changing pulleys won't affect the belt either. All that does is change the speed. If you put a smaller crank pulley on it will turn the SC slower (along with all your other accessories) and make less boost. Of course that equals less power loss to drive the SC, but also less power gain. If you do the opposite and put a smaller pulley on the SC, it will turn the SC faster, which will draw more power from the engine but will make more boost and more power.

As for a turbo requiring more custom work, see above. A custom SC is harder to do than a custom turbo.

honestly i'm a newbie at turbo charging engines too.. i pretty much got on the bandwagon two weeks ago after i got frustrated with my ride. I did a search for 3400 sfi looking for some type of engine swap that would improve performance .. and that brought up an old post on here about a turbo charged GT. Some guy wanting to know what he needed to do it right. I haven't looked back since. i've been on wiki, ask, all the forums reading about what i'd need to turbo this engine (some nights until 1, 2 3 AM). the knoweledge is out there if you just seek it out. Now i'm on a three year plan to turbo. If more people understood the turbo option..there'd be more 3400's on the road. Come on everyone..lets get out on the street and preach turbo.
