well i was on my way home today and decided to wash my car after a few days of rain. I had 20 bucks on me. I needed 3 bucks to wash the car. I get to the car wash and realize i forgot my drying cloth. I thought to myself: I COULD put the spot free rinse on it afterwards, but I dont wanna dry it off at home and scratch the paint.

so i ran to my local auto value store (which is probably the equivilent of autozone in the states)

Im searching around. all they had were huge beach towel things and chamois cloths. I got a ton of these at home and only needed something for 1 day.

anyways i find this thing called "The ultimate drying cloth" it cost 12 bucks. Ive bought cheap drying cloths before and they worked pretty well (For 1 day that is). I decided to give this thing a whirl it looked like an absorber (which i also hate) only it had perferated circles all over the place. Figured it was decent, if it wasnt it would only cost like 2 bucks not 12

So i wash my car and pull it outside of the car wash to dry it off

I start drying it off, and I notice the parts im drying have soap on them..

Im like: WTF? I wring out my "drying cloth" and nothing but soap comes out. Im sitting there with my jaw wide open, thinking: "you idiot, you bought some sort of hybrid car washing cloth" I look at the package and it specificly says DRYING. I threw the thing away and drove over it in disgust. Went back to the car wash after i grabbed all my cloths (which were still wet from me washing them) and did it right

people were lookin at me thinking why is this guy soaping his car.. he just washed it.

I wish i still had the damn thing i woulda spat on it. Not that it woulda done much, stupid product

I just use micro fiber towels, work great and are super cheap.

Sucks you wasted money on it though, shoulda taken it back and complained. If you happen to have the packaging, call the customer service number, maybe they will send you a refund, or a voucher for a free car wash.

I took it right back for a full refund after using it for 3 minutes.

That reminds me of a time a few years back where I bought a pack of cotton towels(I only use microfiber now). They didnt have soap in them like yours..just standard Viking Cotton Drying Towels....but the entire pack of ten cotton towels were basically water resistant. I could not believe it. Itwas like drying your car with a garbage bag. I had never seen anything like it. You could ppur water on them and they would bead off like teflon. I was pissed as hell too.

Well it's typical that new Chamois or Absorbers are actually pretty terrible the first couple of times around. They have to "break in" of some sort before they actually start working well. I've heard from a few detailing friends "the older the chamois the better". I guess it gets better over time, but a brand new one doesn't mean anything really. Just means, you're starting a new waiting period.

You hit the nail on the head!

i have 3 or 4 absorbers and love em. only thing i dont like is they dont get all the water off the glass.

I would have been pissed as hell too. Matter of fact, I would have pissed on them, taken them back to where I bought them, gotten a refund and had them send them back to the manufacturer and asked them if they were dry or not. As for the abosorbers, my biggest issue was when you first started using them, whatever small pieces of material were still on the cloth would shed onto the car and then I would have to use a lint brush to knock them off the car when dry.

That's what a California Water Blade is for! That's my two drying pieces. Water blade for top half of car and windows, absorber for the finishing details.

psht, i don't care about water spots on the windows..i follow up and clean them later anyways. as long as it gets the water off the paint, im happy. :)

I also bought an absorber and the first few times I used it the damn thing sucked ass. Washed it a couple times and the thing will suck up water on the whole car before I need to wring it out.

Get an Absorber + California Water Blade (make sure blade is clean, wipe it down before you dry your car, it's safe on paint and class - check it out!).

Use the Absorber as much as possible. It'll take a few times over to get it worked in but after a month or so it'll work amazing wonders.

As with the Absorber, I'm pretty sure you're supposed to rinse the cloth out before using it. Probably says it right on the package too.

first off, it's a drying cloth..it shouldn't be wet when used.

secondly, it shouldn't have soap in it to begin with.

Who said it's soap? Perhaps it's just a soap-like substance used in the manufacturing process. Complain to the company for not thoroughly rinsing them out before selling them. Then again, don't complain when they cost an extra $5 because of this. Also, if you ring the thing out really good you shouldn't have a problem with drying. After all, you ring it out as you're drying, and it doesn't seem to affect the performance.

wheter its soap or not, do you want nasty white soap like substance on your car when your drying it?

Did you read the package? Did it say rinse before using? If so, you have no one to blame but yourself! Read it again and let us know.

I read the package several times and it didnt mention anything about rinsing nor white stuff.
