Hello, im new to this website, and I just purchased a Grand Am GT 2001 yesterday. After riding it for 20 or more minutes and especially above 60 the temperature goes 2 lines above 200. What is the regular temperature for it? Also when the car is parked with the a/c off, the electric fans turn on once in a while but not that fast. When i turn on the a/c, they speed up a little more. I want to know how do the electric fans work, when exactly do they turn on.I already took the radiator to get clean through the inside and out, but i still dont change the thermostat. Could it be that?

i dont know if uv ever owned a car before, but the temperature rises and falls. anything under i think 240 is okay. iv seen my car go to 230 just sitting somewhere. but then once i start driving again, it'll return to 180-190ish. 200 is still normal so dont worry about it. if it starts hitting 240 or 250 id turn on the heater to help vent out some of that heat.

I would suspect the lower radiator hose is getting sucked shut at higher engine speeds or the radiator is clogged.

It's summer in Texas. Is it a bit warm there now?

Thank you guys, last night i changed the temperature sensor that sends the signal to the gauge and fans, but apperantely i didnt need to change it, it works the same, but it wont hurt having it new. Also I compared my car to a friends 04 SE V6, and it works the same. So it is normal, and its not warm down here, it is hot, we are getting temperatures at 99-103, and some days there isn't even wind. So thanks for your help. Just wondering, what will a 01 grand am gt 4 dr hit on the 1/4, all stock?

Same, but everyone else's car does the same thing, thats just the way Ga's are i suppose. My new gt heats up a lot more then my old se did. I dont think I ever had th fans turn on on my old se, on my gt they do all the time, but it was also like... 105-110 here for most of the past month or 2.
