I'm looking to buy some 17"x7.5" rims with a 5x114.3 bolt pattern and a +40 offset. I'm going to go on the safe side and buy some hub rings before I ever put the weels on the car...
My question is, will it make a difference with the rings if they are a mm or so off, or should I wait to get the rims and measure the exact size of the bore before I get the rings?

You don't need hub rings for our car. Our wheels are lug centric. People seem to have about a 70/30% (give or take) chance of having problems or not with 5x114.3 wheels. A lot might depend on the design of the wheels and if you tighten and torque the lugs the proper way. You'd be better off though getting the correct bolt pattern of 5x115 if you want to avoid the possibility of problems all together.

I wish it wasnt so damn hard to get good looking rims in 5x115. I searched for weeks for the style of rims i got now and couldnt find squat.

but anyways ya.

cars are lug centric which means the rim is supported by the lugs not the hub so hub centric rings are useless.

(atleast thats my interpritation of lug centric)

I've been looking for weeks for a set of 5x115 wheels, and I can barely find any, let alone the kind I really want to spend money on. So if hub rings wont help the possibility of vibration, what will?

I know that I am probably going to get flamed for saying this but, here is my personal experience.

I have Eagle 077's with a bolt pattern of 5x114.3 that had a slight vibration at highway speeds. The only remedy that I could come up with was hubcentric rings. I installed them and my problem was remedied. Will my wheel studs break? I don't know. Will one of my wheels fall off, I guess it could. But, myself along with others on this forum have used hubcentric rings and haven't had any problems. I am not an expert on this topic, nor can I guarantee that this will remedy a possible vibration, but am providing you and others with my firsthand experience.

Here is your remedy....Konig Heatsinks....brand new for 2007. I have one of THE first North American sets in the 5x115 bolt pattern. 18x8 40mm offset, they look sick as hell..just need to get them is a link to what they look like,

I appreciate the link, but not really a fan of those. I went ahead and ordered the ones I was looking at and will hope to god that I'm part of the 30% that has luck with 5x114.3. When I get them on, I'll let you guys know how they work out. Also, I found a seller on ebay that sells hubcentric rings for about 20 bucks shipped, so I'm gonna get those and I should be ok.

yea, I think 18's are just a tiny bit too big for our car. they dont give it the stance I really want.

i disagree look at my pics mine are 18x8 5x114.3 with hub rings that came with the wheels, they dont look too big to me, and i dont like cars with HUGE WHEELS I THINK THEY ARE GAY

18's look good. 17's look good too on a car with stock body. With a body kit 17's look a little small and 18's or 19's look perfect. Anything bigger is retarded, I agree.

ok, I dont want to make a new thread so I'm going to ask this here...
is a 245/40/17 a good tire size for the (17x7.5) wheels I got? I dont want something too too low profile, but not too big either.

Nope, 245's are too wide. The diameter is close to stock but you'd need an 8" or 8.5" wheel for them to fit and keep the sidewalls properly square. You'd be better off with a 235/45 or a 225/45.

I just got some Kumho Ecsta MX's size 225/45-17. So far they are awesome. They ride much smoother than the all season toyo's I had and have much more grip. Price is good on them too, but they only have a 220 wear rating. They are extreme performance summer only tires, very similar to the BF goodrich g-force t/a KD. Something with higher tread wear and similar to the g-force sports would be the Kumho Ecsta SPT's, $85 each at tire rack. Pirelli, Dunlop, and Bridgestone also make some good summer performance tires you might want to look at.
