View Full Version : horn chirps but does not blow

My daughter has a 2001 grand am and she tells me her horn does not work, however, when she arms or disarms her car the horn chirps. I pulled the fuse from the fuse panel under the hood and swithed it with another one but have the same problem. What else can it be?
This section is if you currently know a how-to and want to share with others.

well if it were the fuse it wouldn't have chirped when she locked/unlocked the car..i would go with a wiring issue in the steering column as your culprit..i'd be able to give more specific info but alas i am at work and do not have my haynes service manual with me.
edit: and what she said..the mods will probably move it to Technical Q&A for you as a courtesy tho.
I had the same problem and had it fixed at the dealer. They told me horn one of two is shorted and had to be replaced. I had a real high pitched note when I armed the car, too. I'm sorry I cant say how it was actually fixed.

i have the same problem now, it comes and goes. I do think its something inside the steering column though

Thanks everyone, I had a feeling it was in the steering column, that's not good I hate bringing my car into the dealer. BTW sorry for posting in the wrong section.

do you know if the air bag ever blew in your car?
because once the steering wheel breaks for the air bag it also breaks the part the makes the horn chirp and possibly it was never fixed

It could just be bad connections at the horn it self, it is near the passanger wheel well, water splashing could cuz it to corrode, clean the contacts.
worth a try.
