My ABS light has been on for about two weeks. Off and on. More on than off. When it's on I get SVS light as well as Low Trac. I assume that both of these are normal when the ABS light is on.

I have disconnected all ABS wiring at the wheel hubs and cleaned it out, hoping that it was just water in the connection. Unfortunately, this didn't clear the light off the dashboard.

How do I go about finding out which sensor is messed up? And is this something that I can do myself when it comes to repairing it?

Thanks,

Thanks,

Had the same prob with my 99 GA, it was the hub:eek: It had to be replaced, $300 later I never had a problem again. I know this is not what you want to hear:rage:

Thanks for the reply.

This leaves me with CDN$1500 worth of repairs on this POS car on the front end alone. I have to redo most of the front suspension as well. The good thing is that once I spend this money, the car should be trouble free for a long time. (haha)

Unless the quality on these cars goes up dramatically, I may never buy another General Motors vehicle again. :(

I hear ya. I still have a clunk noise in the front of mine which the dealer cannot find. It could be the rack (which was allready replaced) or some bushings. Just today going to work my check engine light came on AGAIN! It smells like a smoke stack when I start it and is really hard on gas. I don't know what to do with it. I'm leaning twords a honda!

Hey, why cant you just go to a auto parts store like murrays or autozone and buy one, its like 100 bucks, and takes 30 mins to install it. Buy one, because im like 90% sure its the front, then replace the left. Start the car, if its gone good, if it isnt, shutoff car, and take it off, replace it with the old one, and try it on the right. They are interchangable. gl

They're $55.99 at Autozone. And it's Timken, a great brand. If they quote you higher say "check store #2170, you Autozoner tool." That's Portage, Michigan and that was the price a week ago. They'll have to give you the lower price. And most decent-sized stores stock them. Don't take it to the dealer unless

1. You're under warranty
OR
2. You have millions of dollars and surplus time on your hands.

Many will disagree but on something stupid simple like a hub do it yourself or take it to a small shop that'll do it cheap. Kinda hard to screw it up. As for diagnosing which is bad, see if water pours out of the connector when you unhook it. Most guys who had one go bad had a connector full of water. Hope this advice and price aren't too late.

I have a new, but probably related problem.

My left front wheel is making noise at any speed. It gets louder as I go faster, and gets even louder when I turn the wheel to the right while moving. I think that the hub needs to be replaced, and maybe even a bearing repack?

I'm off to Midas for their opinion on it. Hub replacement is something that I will do myself. I don't know about a bearing repack, though.

It ended up being a bad bearing on the right wheel that was causing all of my problems.

I have replaced the hub and bearing, and the lights on the dashboard are all off now. The noise that was coming from the left side of the car is now gone with it. I replaced the RIGHT side hub. Funny.

On another topic, a while back, with the old board, I was complaining bitterly about GM not being able to make a creaking noise in my front left brake go away.

I went to Canadian Tire and got some silicone grease, and put it on EVERY moving surface in the brake area (with the exception of the rotor and inner part of the pads), and the noise is gone. I think something in my brakes was just rubbing something else and had lost it's lubrication. Why couldn't the dealership have done this SIMPLE job that took me 10 minutes???

I'm now 100% happy with my Grand Am again.
