I currently have 10,000 miles on my gagt. How long do the stock brake pads generally last for? My buddy has an 01 Grand Prix GTP, and he had to replace his at 10k miles... Also, how come my brakes seem more responsive after I just wash the car and they are wet. The brakes are SOOO touchy then. When they're dry, it takes a little more force to bring the car to a hault.

It depends on your driving style on how long the brakes last. If you stop at the last second and slam on the brakes they chew em up quicker.. but if you slow down from good distance it'll last really long time. The reason why your brakes are responsive better after being washed is that the brakes are cold. Its not heated up; once they heat up and continued being heated you get this thing called brake fade.

Under normal conditions in my family (varies for everyone) brakes usually last 40k miles. I know when I changed out my mom's and dad's car they still had some good meat left on the pads but it was already 3/4 worn down. So might as well change em before it gets down to the can't stop period.
