i have a 2003 grand am gt with cold air intake....i only have 90000kms on it...whenever i wash it or it rains out, the car idles ruff and hesitates and shifts hard....please help any ideas??? it revs fine in nutral tho.

hm, well i was gonna say perhaps you are getting water in your intake..it would be the easiest explanation. although i would expect it to be a bit tough in neutral as well.

check your cai and make sure it is protected well from rain, also be sure to avoid puddles especially on the driver's side when it does rain. and give it time after washes to dry out and see how it drives then..if doing these makes it drive better, you have your culprit, if not..then im out of ideas. :(

Check your filter + your MAF sensor. I had heavy oxidation on mine and it drove like ass whenever it rained out until I had it fixed.

It could also be that one of your coil packs are cracked and the moisture is stopping the spark.

Bastard mechanic pulled that one on me..... replaced the coil pack and that wasnt even the problem.

Its usually that or wires honestly. Its rather easy to trouble shoot though. Take a water squirt bottle and start spraying the engine when its warm. Whenever it runs like crap there you go.

i took off my CAI and took a look at the MAF and i think it was the problem it was pretty disgusting...lol.... i cleaned it....and i think the problem is solved...it was raining on the way home today and while...no sputter or hard shifts...thanks for the help guys....i appershate it....oh heres a pic of what it looked like,.

Told ya :) You may need to change your filter as well. Mine was almost disintegrating when I took it off

if anyone else has a problem with oxidization....i just used carb cleaner and some electrical cleaner to follow it up...worked great
