AWWWWWWW YEA!

After recently debadging my car, (see How To: Debadging your grand am) I took a nice 20
minute drive down to Mark of MP Racing and got his full exterior detail done. I got there
around 3:00 in the afternoon and we went to about 10:00 at night. We both had a great
time and enjoyed cleaning my baby before I head off to college.

It was hot that day, about 91 and she was in the sun for a little while before I brought
her over so we got her in the shade to cool off. Then we started with a wash

Did you get lost going/leaving there ?

I remember leaving Mark's place...
Following my GPS to Walmart.
& going :wtf turn here, & turn here on to back roads.
(I wonder what lone wolf was thinking, following me back lol)

Nice looking headlights ;)
(Thanks by the way, for your old set :boogie: )

How come your pintstriping stops at the rear doors?

Nice! I like the "in action" close up shots ya did. Very cool.

But yea Mark's an awesome guy...with a funky tie-dye t-shirt...lol

Iowagdam

Took that off because the pinstrip on the back panels are 7 years old and the ones on the doors and front fenders are about 3 years old, I will destrip the car when I get time. But I did take both off so it looks somewhat symmetrical

Its too bad you didn't do it that day. It would have worked out since you'll probably need to clay it when you take the strips off anyways...

I have had that shirt 8years now and I still love it like the day my cousin bought it for me... I mean it is Hendrix after all....

in any case that wing was just plain FUBAR.. lol

the main reason the detail took so long was a result of not just doing everything myself with no talking.... instead I took the time to teach Andrew anything I could about detailing that he did not already know. Oh yea we also took a nice little break to go pick up my fiance from work (30-40minutes)

Andrew- it was my pleasure tuning and detailing your car and I thank you for your appreciation of my work.

How did your spoiler get so screwed up?

The 99's and 00's clear coat on the wings were put on wrong and after 7 years this is what happens.;crap I will repaint my car in the coming years so I'm not to worried about it.

Man your getting good with #83 AND you do it with a cutting pad. Way better with it than i am, i could never do that. I have tried everything i could to get it to finish out perfect. I always get hazing (micro-marring) from it. The stuff hates me i think, i always have to follow it up with a lighter polish. #83 sure gets the job done though, its no slouch.

Yea, got some simple green and a new brush. The wheels look great. Took off like 4 layers of caked on grease and tire shine.

thanks man.. I do what I can and now that I have gotten my technique down I have yet to need to follow up with anything lighter...

I like the #83 alot cause its not harsh enough to take the clear down too fast and I can get it to finish as seen in the pics in this thread and lonewolfs thread..

since we are talking about it have you heard of others getting #83 to finish out without having to go back with a lighter polish or am I just getting the results that most get and the stuff jsut seems to hate you

Im definately not alone on #83, most people have a hard time working with it. There is one guy on autopia.org, Totoland Mach. He is AMAZING. Check out some of his click and brags, he uses #83 exclusively and never follows it up with anything. Just amazing.

I don't know if it's just me or what, but the before pics of your paint look darker than the after...any reason why? But either way it looks really nice, I like it.

I noticed this as well.... I would have to say its a result of the paint reflecting more of the light now that the cc has been polished... i could be wrong but cant see what else would have caused it

Don't know how but your right lol. It could have been the camera angle but I believe that it was caused by Mark's great job. I like it tooo:D

Mike Jung

(I could be wrong...Jung is not always right ;))

Put a coat of Carnauba based wax on it.
It will deepen the paint's colour; & shine.

Mark put a paint sealant on it after polishing, right ?
I have found that paint sealants tend not to offer as deep dark shine; as say Carnauba based wax.

PS: Carnauba based wax (with no polishes) will layer-up on top of the paint sealant.

EDIT: Never mind...I just re-read the details of the detailing.
You already have a coat of Carnauba wax on top of the paint sealant.
