I have to say i wasnt gonna do this car at all. The owner called me up and said he just bought a winter beater and wants it washed and waxed. I told him i dont wash and wax vehicles, i only do paint restorations. Then he says right away that the top of his trunk was messed up, looks like someone sanded it or something and wanted to see if i can fix it. I figured sure, i will clean it up, clay it, AIO product and then seal the paint and buff out the trunk. I made it very clear to him that if it wasnt for the trunk needing buffed out i would have turned down his buisness, I DO NOT WASH AND WAX VEHICLES!!!! lol
91 Cadillac
Megs gold class wash
rubber made super degreeser on rims and tires and wheel wells
No touch on tires and then megs hot shine aresol
Stoners on glass both inside and out
Clay magic blue clay, megs #34 for quick detailer
Never dull on all chrome
Loung Hual polish/sealant (AIO)
Duragloss agua wax for the sealant
Trunk got:
Rotary Edge yellow wool and optimum compound @2400rpm
Rotary Edge yellow foam and optimum compound @1800rpm
Rotary Edge blue foam and megs #80 @1000rpm
And its nowhere near perfect in anyway shape or form. This trunk got scrubbed with something that completely destroyed the clear coat. Damn shame.

Claying, this is the trunk, look real close to the right of the claybar, you can see where i didnt clay, yeah this car was loaded with dirt in the paint.

I just cant bring myself to do wash and wax type jobs, its just not for me.
well, with a car like that wouldnt the wax just lock in the cruddiness? doesnt even sound worth it to the car owner.

The paint is clean so it didnt lock in any dirt. As far as imperfections the car is riddled with them. Being a light color its hard to see them though.
Having an old/er car washed and waxed (my type of wash n wax) really does make ya feel good to drive everyday. Becuase it was going to be his beater and didnt want it fully reconditioned, thats where i was at a cross roads with this job. It really would have been worth it to fully recondition inside and out. It was easy money though so i cant complain, only took 3 hours.

Man you can never see my pics lol
well, i meant JUST wash and wax how he originally wanted. not claying or anything.

I'm actually thinking of telling everyone to post all their pics as attachments so that I can see them. The **** of me not being able to see them drives me nuts. I really feel left out and unwanted. Like a red-headed step-child. ;crap :attention. lol

Im assuming your at work and photobucket.com is blocked?
I dont use attachments for these types of threads becuase its so much easier to scroll down and see good sized pics and not have to click on each one just to see them. Plus its easier to see the befores and afters.

Not being a smart a$$, just curious;
You do wash it before you do any detailing, right?

Not well, no one has wanted it done yet, someday. Actually the 53 Chevy coupe i was supposed to buff out i might end up wetsanding the whole car. He is having it repainted and wants me to wetsand it and buff it out when the body shop is done with it. But its going to take 4-6 months to paint it and it will be done over the winter. I already quoted him $1600 and he is down for that, he said the body shop is gonna charge hime $2000 less becuase they wont have to do the finishing work.

Washing and waxing is such a small part of the process. They are the fastest and easiest part of the whole detail and are basicly the cake walk part of it all.
Anyone can wash and wax a car.
Well you would think lol

if i'm willing to let you "practice" on my car, will you do so for free? i've got some chips and those damn egg marks i really want to get rid of.

Ya if you want to "Practice" for free you can use my car. Ive got a spot where I got hit that left these white marks. Its quite a small spot but if your willing to tackle it I can dole out some 'beverage' dollars.
Anyways, that caddy dont look like a beater any more. The guy should take it back to where he bought it from and show them what a steal he got. What colors do you like working with/dont like working with? Does it make a difference?

Ive been practicing alot and have it down pretty good. The problem is it is time consuming. Wetsanding something like a whole door can take 3-5 hours from the wetsanding step all the way to the finishing polish step. Doing small spots arent as bad and i can do them pretty quickly, well relatively quick.

I will be at home pretty much all day saturday. I was gonna buff out the rest of my truck but if you wanna stop by we can work on those spots. Being a cavy we could just about buff out the entire car pretty quick. Let me know.

I may just go ahead and buy a piggy keg for when we do my car, $30 and 2 gallons of microbrewed beer. :applause:

I just hope you understand the time it takes. You have a long drive that will cost alot, food that will cost alot, beer that will cost alot and product cost. In the end you will spend a good chunk of change even though im charging you penny's when it comes down to it.
Tim bought me beer all weekend (thats alot of beer), paid for 3 full meals, payed probably $70+ in gas, spent 48 hours at my place and had alot of patience.
It will be an experiance for you to say the least lol

I'll be spending about the same amount as Tim did.

you know AJ, Coupe isnt the only one with a PC. sure i'm not near as good as him, but i can do ok. it took me about 8 hours with my car. i'd expect about the same for yours. and my process went like this:
Wash
Clay
#83
#80
#82
Mothers Reflections Polish
P21s (2 coats one same day, one next morning)
and it turned out pretty damn good. not perfect, but a LOT better.
i'm not trying to steal your buissness either Coupe, just offering so he can save some cash.

Yea, but (not knocking you or anything) coupe is THE guy on the board to go to afterall...
Heck if Mark hadn't detailed my car just recently I'd go up and have him do mine...well maybe, considering the drive it takes to get there...
