Okay, at first I thought it was going to be ugly, but now I have seen the light :) I want so bad!!!!! That car is frickin gorgeous... I think they did an excellent job... I just wish I had a lot of $$$ so I could buy one :( I think I'm falling in love...

It'd be sweet to buy that car and then retrofit a genuine Holden front end on it. IMO the Holden version looks nicer, and you'd have a unique (but not riced) looking car. The Holdens are very tasteful, simple, elegant. You look at that car and its just not a Pontiac!
Not that it matters, since they aren't shipping them north of the border. wtf

Little blurb about the show cars:
Sporting a special high-gloss paint in red or yellow, the GTO show cars exhibit the strong Pontiac brand character with a signature dual-port grille and a wide aggressive stance. The vehicles ride on 18-inch alloy wheels. They also sport a high-performance powertrain that makes the vehicle worthy of the "GTO" name.
Under the hood is a specially tuned LS1 5.7-liter V-8 aluminum-block engine currently estimated at 340 horsepower @ 5200 rpm, 360 lbs.-ft. of torque at 4000 rpm with an appropriately tuned Pontiac exhaust note. While sharing the same basic engine configuration with the base-level Chevrolet Corvette, the LS1 engine in the GTO has been modified with a high-lift camshaft and increased airflow induction to create greater horsepower and low-end torque than the Holden Monaro to address the needs of U.S. drivers.
All that power is mated to either an electronically controlled Hydra-Matic 4L60-E four-speed automatic transmission or the six-speed, close ratio manual transmission available on the Corvette ZO6. Both transmissions feature the same low-geared 3.46 final drive axle ratio in a rear-wheel-drive configuration to maximize off-the-line performance, a limited slip differential, and a three-channel traction control system designed to help enhance vehicle control.
Although performance testing on the vehicle has not been completed, the production model GTO is expected have a zero-to-60 acceleration time of less than 6 seconds and run the quarter-mile in approximately 14 seconds at a speed of 105 mph. The top speed of the vehicle is estimated to be about 160 mph.

Left hand drive with a metric guage cluster? Are you sure that isn't the Canadian version? Everywhere else that uses metric has right hand drive, correct?

Looks very nice. It almost looks like a Dodge Avenger from the side. :D How come the GTO can have a spoiler that goes over the side. Unlike the SC/T spoiler that GM cut off before they sold it to the public? I really like the front too. I wonder what the price will start at.

Cuz the GTO doesnt have an antenna on the rear 1/4 to hit the spoiler :) The SC/T cars had shaved antennas, hence the wider spoiler was ok.

I officially predict that they will not stay on the lots for long if any make it there without being pre-ordered. The car guys at GM right now apparently have their hands tied behind their backs and are gagged with duct tape and the bean counters are in control, but, if the GTO is actually advertized (quick: name your favorite F-body commercial over the past 5 years!! hmmmm.... why did no one buy them?) it will sell like hotcakes, and the limited production will sell out pretty fast.

I was excited about seeing the real pics. Now I'm not so hot on it. The rear quarters are screwy looking and I'm entirely turned off by the rear of the car. Looks like a Tiberon to me. Nope, I'm not so enthused now. And the exhaust... there's a cutout in the bumper, so it won't even look right with duals. :( I'll be morning the F Body just a bit more now.

...if the bean counters were completely in control like they were in the 80's, then you wouldn't see this car, you wouldn't see V-Series Cadillac's, or GXP Pontiac's... it is also rumoured that the Solstice will be going into production... GM is on a comeback, but they have to be careful... the demise of the F-body did occur due to the bean counters, but that was a few years back...
...and my favorite F-body commercial was the Trans Am that devoured the car at the traffic light... :)

Don't know how to say this so you guys might look at the car a bit more objectively, but...
...am I one of the few on this thread it seems to think the car is a disappointment????? Wheels...UGLY. I'll take my 18" Eagle Alloys on their thank you. No dual exhaust? Long, cheap looking plastic air inlet under the grill.
I can't even explain how I see the car. It's kinda skinny looking, not very wide tires and stance for a V8 with that power. Front end reminds me of a cavalier bottom-grandprix upper (headlights/grill), side of the car like a acura integra, roof and C-pillar like a sunfire, tail end-once again-like a slightly modified acura integra.
Nice car, but I am not gonna jump all over just because it is a new model. More picks needed to judge if it warrants "awesome". Right now it is just a "nice" car

Mine too... ;) Awesome marketing, rather than this "Pass it along" crap....
The F-bod was also far out of date. The chassis was in much need of evolution. The new chassis coming out will give rebirth to GM RWD performance... but until they evolve the Camaro name it will always be a bit sad seeing anything to do with GM Performance without the real pony car.
Monaro/GTO... nice, but it is not the raw brutal power of a T/A, Z28. They have a BMW want to be, but it is a rwd v8 sports/lux sedan!!! About time again. Thanks Bob!

And what's this... NO RAM AIR?!!!! It has the perfect setup for it, with the front mounted TB.... Should make for a sweet ramairhood... ;)

I like the exhaust tips. And I think once the public gets a hold of it they will get a lot better times out of it. Hopefully its underated like the f-bodys were. That'd be tite.

Actually, I don't know any country but in the US where they still use the imperial system in cars and such.
BTW I've heard reports now from some dealers in Canada that GM might import about 500 GTOs the first year to test the market and decide from there if it's gonna be available more widely after that.
You what would be really good? If the car sells out and they decide to keep them coming in North America they could use the Camaro plant in Ste.Therese to build them. That might even make them bring the Camaro and Firebird back to use the RWD plant better. That'd be a good reason to modernize the plant and I could see all these cars being built on the same platform (with VERY different bodies). Maybe get a new Caddy in there too and the plant wouldn't be losing money anymore...
Dreamer, I'm nothing but a dreamer... :p

Yeah, it kinda sux that we use imperial still seeing as it is costing us money because of how we have to convert stuff when we do calculations in science. One occasion we lost more than $100 million I believe, sending a spacecraft to mars with the wrong damn coversions :rage: However, it would also cost us a ****load to change every highway sign to metric and every gas station to metric and everything to metric, plus American people like being different, so it probably won't change.

I really like the GTO. I think it'll be very successful.
I very much like the design and styling of the car.
The interior looks top notch and of very high quality.
The only thing i'm a bit less enthusiastic about is that the front end is not AGGRESSIVE enough for my tastes. Even the current GA GT is more aggressive in my opinion.
But that's fine. This car is meant to be for the more mature crowd who wants a refined looking car. Just like BMW owners. I'm only 23...so i wont be able to afford this car for quite some time. For those who can afford it (mostly 30+ year old people) will like it very much. In my opinion anyway.

Hey, I think its gorgeous...I won't trade my F body for one, but it is a beautiful car. To answer a couple questions I saw above...
1) Price will be 30-35,000
2) With any hope, the car will be redone within a few years and based off a new, GM North America designed platform, thereby allowing more than 20k units per year to be made.
3) They can advertise it as a halo car for Pontiac, but they don't even need to...20k units will sell in no time.
4) Assuming I play my cards right and order one early enough, I will be the first person on this board to drive one

That's how it was spelled on the original GTO's back in the '60's. That fender badge is a remake of the original 64 GTO fender badge, only it said 6.5 Litre. (389)
Looks like every other Pontiac out there. I like the interior (radio looks a bit orthopedic, though), and it's nice to have another V8 RWD Pontiac, but all the styling of the cars is blending together too much. Look at the pic of the GXP show cars. With the all painted the same color, you can't tell the Grand Am from the Grand Prix from the Bonneville unless you just go by physical size. Their isn't much to distinguish one model from another.
The GTO looks like a good car. I just wish the styling was more distinctive. And it should have dual exhaust and Ram Air. But it's independant rear suspension is a nice improvement over the Firebird's live axle. Still, you never mistook a Firebird for a Grand Am. :)

I love the fact that this is one of the few cars that GM has introduced lately that has curves. I mean go figure everyone knows that a square caddy CTS cuts through the air like knife.:D
I love it and wish I had one but the bumper is a little to passive and when you look at it from the side the hood line doesn't follow to the window sill line and to the trunk line. Its a completly different angle that just stops at the A pillar. I'm no car designer I just know one of the things that makes MY GA beautiful is the fact that the same line goes from headlight to tail light. Just one of those things.
As for the Radio taking up so much real-estate on the dash I'm sure you could fit a cd player and a 7inch monitor in there and I mean what car audio nut wouldn't want more room for toys! my $.02

I think that radio was carried over from australia cause it doesn't look like any of the delco/delphi radios used in pontiac cars.

Canadian Version? As far as I know, there probably won't be one for 4-5 years after it's American release... if there's any Canadian release at all...
They probably just kept it metric when they were redisigning the Holden Monaro.
