Okay, I called the XM number and the offshore "help" didn't even know what a Grand AM was, much less if it was capable of receiving XM radio.

I got a Grand Prix GXP this summer and have my trial XM membership. It isn't bad for my needs and I was thinking I could also add it to my 2004 Grand AM GT for a small additional amount. The XM site indicates that 2004 GAs can receive XM.

Can they? Scrolling through the bands on the Monsoon system doesn't show it.

IIRC, XM was a factory option for that year.

take it to a dealership..have them run the VIN..it should tell you.

otherwise, get an XM reciever, then run a wired FM modulator to the HU.

I found the Pontiac customer service number. They checked the last 8 of my VIN and told me it was NOT XM capable.

well let me ask you this, do you have the sat antenna on the car now? If so you should be able to recive it. If you dont then no, you will have to get one installed.

You can add-on the XM receiver after the fact. Once the XM receiver is present on the Class 2 data bus in the car, then the band selection will be available. The XM receiver is fairly simple to hook up too. You should be able to use a factory GM kit available for the GMT800 trucks to retrofit your car if it doesn't have it from the factory. Last i checked it was like $300 or so complete.

Unfortunately finding someone to clear the VIN from a used XM receiver is hard to do, because they are not supposed to be cleared.

You could also use a XM Direct kit etc.. with similar results.

If it looks like this http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/5/51/Satellite_dish_1.jpg/150px-Satellite_dish_1.jpg then I don't have one!! :D

It's not that big a deal for me. If it were already XM capable I'd add the service. I've sort of passed the GA on to my daughter. Hope she appreciates it, it's the most reliable car I've owned to date.
