View Full Version : Power Steering Cap leaking?

I am wondering if anyone else is having the same problem as me. I always have a residue of power steering fluid (I think) all over the reservoir. I can clean it all off, then a couple weeks later, it there again. The reservoir never seems to be loosing and fluid, but I am not sure what else it could be. Any help?

yes i had this problem. what happend was i overfilled the reservoir. if you simply dip a clean rag in it, and get it to the correct level, it will stop leaking.

Mine does the same thing. I've tried changing to a different cap too and it didn't help. It's always filled to the correct level, and mine still always has a little bit of fluid around the cap.

mine does, i dont seem to be losing fluid too fast. Sure it looks like crap, but hey, i have better things to worry about.

i work at a tire place but we also do oil changes. Ive noticed the same thing on every 3400 that comes in including mine. I dont think anything of it.

yes also noticed that but I tried cleaning the rubber seal in the cap. it seems to stay cleaner longer. I guess some fluid may splash as you drive then when you take the cap off the fluid moves to the outer part of the seal then slowly drips everywhere. As its an oil a few drops can spread out making it seem like more than there really is.

Mine has always done it. I even replaced the power steering pump (for a different reason) and the new one does it as well. It is most likely a design flaw.

I see when i pull the cap off theres a little pressure, but also theres a spring on the cap, mine seemed to slip over this lip, my guess is its common and that is what might be causing the problem, i'll see what happens if i slip it back on and tuck the end underneath.
