-hey guys im gonna add a DEKA 9A78DT (http://www.remybattery.com/ProductInfo.aspx?productID=9A78DT) to my car in the trunk. I have dimming problems at idle and I have a 4 channel amp i just gotta get fixed but of course i should fix the dimming a lil before i add any more strain on everything.
-so, what are some "easy" thoughts to mount that thing in the trunk. i have a 4 gauge run right now, and ill just use that for the 2nd battery with another fuse in back.
-any over all thoghts too are gooooz

I can't help any about having a second battery, but I know Mark, (laxjax13) just recently relocated his battery to the trunk. Could ask him for details on what he did, it might help.

i mounted my battery in my trunk...i used the holder thats in the engine bay, used some bolts and bolted it to the trunk...and the holder for the battery...stays the same, so its like normal...
Told you you should do it how I have it. Off to one side or corner of the trunk and hidden in a box, I think the exposed battery and all the wires looks tacky.

I used 4 Gauge power cable and ran it through to the trunk.
The battery takes a while to crank however. I used 20ft of cable which is way to much, im going trim it down soon hopefully it fixes the slow draw problem.
i just drilled 4 holes and put nuts and washers on the bottom, and sealed around the holes with silicone.
hope that helps

2nd battery wont help your dimming. if anything it will make it worse. 2nd batterys are only good for if your car isnt running. but if it is running then the alt is going to be trying to work even harder to charge 2 batteries at once.
you can do what you'd like and argue or what not, i'm just trying to save you time and money.
I beg to differ seeing as how I had HORRIBLE dimming with my new system, I got my back up battery still from my old Se and he hooked it up the other day, no dimming whatso ever. Before, The amp was at 1/2 gain and only at 1/2 volume, and i still got dimming. Now, none. So, maybe a second battery DOES help?

I understand where you are coming from with the whole putting a bigger load on the alt, because it obviously it does. Thats why they make HO Alts :) But you said it will make the dimming worse, which in my car and everyone else I know with a second battery, it eliminated it.

Putting a 2nd battery will put strain on the altinator. It was only built to charge one battery. Could it do 2 batteries, yes but it will shorten the life of it.
Be a smart guy and buy yourself a high out put altinator and a yellow top . It will save you time and money and it will do the job you are looking for.
I can show u a car that has 2 yellow top batteries and it still dims. ( FACTORY ALT IN THE CAR) But then again there are 3 1250 watt mono block amps in the car.

If that was directed at me, show me someone who makes a HO alt for an 03+ Ga and I will gladly buy it. Till then I dont have much of a choice.

Just for the record, my batt is in the trunk, not my 2nd batt is in the truck, my 1st batt ;)

Besides you said to find you one. I did, so now your crying about how much it cost? LOL What did u think , it was going to be cheap?
Remember, you get what you pay for.

Hah, I knew that one was comin. And your exactly right, but 500$ for an alternator is a lot of fockin money... Idk why one was never even made for an 03+?

I have 3 amps, two 12 woofers, two set of tweeters, and 3 pair of speakers inside with a yellow top and a CAPACITOR... just get your self a CAPACITOR and will that will help you.

wow this has been a pretty successful thread.....but ya ok wow a lotta semi useful info and a lotta garbage on here too....
so ya metalman, explain jake's car then. he had dimming before with his amp moderately low, now with a 2nd batt he has 0 dimming and the amp even set higher.
Cuz it indeed does help with dimming, but yes puts a strain on the alt, lucky for you Paul u own a pre 03 so you can grab a HO alt and be ok

does it put anymore strain on it than my system making the lights dim? lol

Thats why they make HO alts :angel

ok its like this. you have dimming at idel cause your alt isnt spinning as fast, and it has a hard time keeping up with the load. adding anther battery would help at idel, cause your amp has an extra power source. however, at any time other then idel your alt is working double time to power 2 batterys, plus the extra strain of the amp. in short, it will fix your problem, but it will kill your alternator. its like fixing one problem but causing a bigger one.

Yeap. Capacitors put more strain on the alt as well.

so ok. would getting a "better" battery up front help dimming? like the one i listed a while ago (first post i beleive)? i just really dont want to drop 225 dollars plus somethin for some1 to put it in for me......for a stupid alt. i know this stuff costs money but its just a lot to spend for something like that...

are the Delco/bosch ones for a jake's 2003, or my 2001 gt? are those any good? cuz they are less.....
I'm looking at getting a Delco...
o.O
I figure I can solve my dimming by a HO Alt, Then after I get that I can drop in the 2nd battery I have, rerun some wiring... Stick in a Cap, Then amp the rest of my stuff =)
Since I can't even get my volume above 1/3 of the way before the amp shuts off :[
and my car looks like a laser light show before then ;p

Why is your amp shutting off ?
cardude007617
10-04-2007, 12:00 AM
voltage drop or gain set too high i bet.....or poor ground? my amp hasnt ever shut off.....and i ran that **** down to like 11.2v (cap voltmeter rating) one day with the car running.... lol not good i know, first time i ever saw it that low
Are the speakers bridged? A lot of time bridging makes the amp work harder/heat up and goes into protect mode.

mine used to do that. when i would really push it my amp would not only shut off, but blow all 4 of my 25 amp fuses. it would do this because my alt couldnt give it enough power, and the amp was just starving. thus resulting in the fuses blowing. and when i say blowing, i mean the metal in the fuse would break with such force that it would break plastic on the fuse. i think the lowest i've seen my volt meter read is 10.5 volts.
so my new alt fixed that. only problem is i dont have sh*t for voltage at idle. voltage is mid 11s.

any tips on putting the main battery in the trunk? i would like to reduce some weight in the front and put it in the back for better handling. but im not really sure how much it will really help. which side of the car is heavier in the rear? driver or passenger? (i removed my muffler and put a straight pipe so this will affect it) where is the best place to run the wires out of the engine bay? anyone who has done this i would appreciate your input.
