View Full Version : RAZE set to buy another Grand Am ????
The GTO is great, but NOT in the city!! Therefore, I'm keeping it at my mother's house outside New York until I move. I've been looking everywhere for a car the last 3-4 weeks, checking out civics, integras, cavaliers, and grand ams. I've narrowed my search down to one car:
2001 GAGT1 75th Anniversary Edition White:
119,000 miles from commuting 100+ miles/day to work... it has brand new tires, radiator, LIM, headlight housings mint condition leather seats etc. The guy sounds like he took very good care of the car. He's only asking $4100.
Am I crazy for wanting a 5th grand am?? I kind of miss the car. Insurance quoted me $577/year liability only.

if your talking about a commuter/around the city car, you can do alot better. and with the miles, i personally wouldnt do it. reliability will be an issue...

Yeah, I would stay far away from any N-body, especially ones with high miles.

If Im wanting a city car I will want it purely for comfort and my GA is by far one of the most comfortable cars in its class that I have sat in. Plus the AC vents are just sweet.
4100 seems like a great price. My GA has 160k miles on it and it runs perfect. Of course its had a LIM change on it but everything else is great and gets 28-31 MPG on the freeway still.
Id offer 3700 and you will probably compromise on 3900. IMO that isnt too bad.

Sounds like a great buy to me. Sure there are other cars that get better gas milage but if you like the GA then why not get one. The mpg is reasonable with the GA, plus i think there very comfortable to travel in.

This wasn't a car that was beaten on. The owner is a mechanic and he performed all the maintenance on the car except for replacing the LIM. The guy knows his s**t. Reliable cars such as the civic are expensive because they retain their value so well. I looked at a beat up 2000 civic with 80k and the guy wanted $5000!!
If you have any recommendations, I'll definitely consider them. I still have a week.

$4100 for a GA with 119k I'd pass you can do better than that I'd go for the civic with less miles and more expensive it will run longer and get much better gas mileage in the city

Yeah really! My friend has an '04 as well and it was the worst. I dunno how the guys with lowered civics on rims stand the ride.
Another thing to consider is insurance is approximately $65/year more for a civic or integra. The difference in gas usage will probably only be $250/year. I also don't live in the greatest neighborhood. They steal cars and car parts, such as mirrors and headlights. With a grand am parked on the street, I don't have to worry b/c nobody wants one. :)

You got that right, I say do it. For that price if anything happens your not spending a but load extra to get you beater fixed.

multiple breakins since i moved into my new place..and the grand am doesn't have a scratch on her yet.
UPDATE:
I was just informed today that the car I was set to purchase has been totalled. I am quite disappointed, but none more than the owner who claims the vehicle was hit while parked by an unknown vehicle. He had liability only. :(

Last time i checked, grand ams werent very good on gas. Better than a GTO yes, but not all that great.
For 4100 with that many miles no way.
You can get a nice civic like ppl are saying for that...or put down the extra 900, 5k for a nice accord with prolly 80-90kmiles...

and just as quick as they "came"....the dreams of once again having blissful anal sex and fellatio with fellow men in the backseat of a Grand Am, have disappeared....
P.S. Unfortunately I don't have any cars to offer you this time around Randy.

I was wondering when you'd offer your input. Thanks. How about the RX-7?? That would make a great winter beater to have around in the city. $4500 sounds fair to me.

If you were serious, then I'll offer $5000 and you keep the whopper for yourself. Unfortunately, $5000 is my absolute max right now.

My LS2 gets better gas mileage then my GAGT ever did.... Especially on the freeway. Got 32mpg on my last highway trip to Ohio, 450 miles, one tank.

Get a 02-03 SE with the 2.2 in it. I've seen plenty around here with under 100k on them for $4200-5000. It would do pretty good on gas and the engine/tranny would be solid.
Being in the industy... 4100 sounds high for a 6 year old GA with nearly 120k miles.
We take in Grand Ams with 50k, 4 years old for about 6500 ... add two more years and 70k miles would go for about $2,000 - $2,500. Retail life my friend, 10 years or 100,000 miles, a vehicle lose alot of its REAL value to the market.
Hell, for $5,000 you can probably get a Sunfire/Cavalier with 75k or less miles. . . and you can definately pick up a 6 or 7 year old 100k mile import for that price.

Arent you a cop though?
what does that have to do with anything?
Just landed a deal on a 99 grand prix GT coupe, silver with black leather, sunroof, body in good condition, 92k miles, $4000 after fees for a guy I hired to inspect and guarantee the vehicle for me.
