Well ever since I was little my dad and mom owned a bodyshop and he always had old hotrods around and what not and I always loved older automobiles, especially trucks, recently my older sister and I have decided to go each 1/2 in on an older Chevy truck, preferably 1975 or older because in Cali. 75 or earlier you dont have to pass smog, id like to turn it more into a hotrod then like a mudder. Ive found a few around this area, mostly in good shape with rebuilt 350's or 305's, all I mainly care about is it runs good, and the paint is decent, Id like to go custom with the interior and maybe some of the body as well. Ive got the hook up at a stereo shop, and Ive got the hook up at an exhaust shop and wheel/tire shop. Thoughts?

sounds good, but it will turn into an addiction which = major loss of $$$$$

Heh, I have some self control, hehe, but yes it is very addicting, but it is a truck I would like to keep for a long time no fix it up and sell it, but anyway, thats also why I am going 1/2 in on it, so anything we do we will do together :D

I had to have my dad restrain me this year at woodward, because I tried to pick up an old 12second step side that was for sale for like... 4grand. I love those old boxy trucks- especially since you can stand in the engine bay! Good luck!

Hehe, yea they are awesome. My sister had an 84 stepside but unfortunately had to sell it last summer, thats pretty much what I am lookin for if I can find one in decent shape, my friend AND his dad got up under the hood and were standing up haha, tons of space.

You wanna go 1/2 on it with your sister? I dont see that turning out well in the long run. Why not buy one yourself?

Well our family went through a very rough time a few years back and part of us tryin to get past all of it is obviously spendin time with eachother. Me and her, all us kids for that matter are into cars and like working on them, me and her both want one bad so this should be a good time. She lives just down the road from me but yes obivously things do change and what not, so if infact we do turn whatever we buy into a nice truck it would be more a family thing, not just mine or hers, and if the problem ever comes up that one of us moves away, neither of us are selfish people, if she wants it, its hers, and vice versa, its just a fun thing to do. As far as buying one myself goes, I just bought my GA haha, just that car each month (no gas) is costin me about 550 dollars and I dont really have the money to just go out and buy it and start fixin it up on my own, but I do have some money, as does she, so thats why we came up with gettin it together.

Why not convince her to help you install a supercharger/turbo on your GA instead? lol

Jake
09-25-2007, 07:53 PM
hehe, as much as i love my grand am i am going to stop moddin it for a while, as i said before I have wanted an old muscle car/truck or at least an older one that we can fix up for a while, the Ga is already shiny and new, I want to get somethin a lil older that we can make shiny and new :D.

EDIT : the main thing also with modding the GA performance wise is 4 little letters S-M-O-G :p. It doesnt take much to not be able to pass smog in this state and getting into more heavy modding (headers, PCM, superchargers etc etc etc) Is flirting with disaster when it comes time to pass smog.

I know what you mean... recently I've been obsessed with like... older S-10s that are bagged and modded, and larger Silverado stepsides... they're just neat cars to mod.

I think it would be sweet to do a stepside with an escalade front clip.

Heh, well the hood I know is going to have to wait a little while no matter what, got some good news as far as lowering goes, this saturday my sister is coming down with my old Se, and luckily I got that day off work, and the place where I got my rims and tires is open until noon, and I talked to a guy named Kenny there and he is going to be there for 3-4 hours that morning and said he would be glad to swap the springs onto my car from her car, and I still have the stock Se springs in my shed, for 150 bucks.

Plus paint brotha ;)
EDIT : Do they even sell SD hoods on ebay? Remember if and when I get a hood its going to be an SD not an sc/t

that you would only get a sd hood and not a sc/t. i wanted a sd hood too but when it came down to it, it was only finacially feasible to buy the sc/t hood

Heh, well its been a big debate for a while. But I Really like the look of the SD hood, to many times in the past ive settled for what i didnt truly want, so eventually, im gonna go for it.

Feasible or not, a hood has to be in Jakes future.

The nicest older truck IMO is the Dodge Warlock. A nice drop with some wheels and paint would make one look amazing.

Here is an example that I found.

Sounds like a fun project but I would NOT go 1/2 on a car with anyone, that will not end well

Family is an exception. Its the same as going half on a car with your wife or husband. Its immediate family....

Now, I wouldnt do that with a friend.

I wouldn't even do it with family...husband/wife is different its community property anyway brother/sister no way in hell would I go half on a car...who gets to drive it and when what if one wants to sell it and the other doesn't...good way to tear apart a family but good luck to ya

For your first car its not bad to go half. As long as you enjoy working on cars and you / your sister can guarantee to take turns driving it you'll be fine. Good luck and post pics if you get one.

Heh, my brother just called me, he found a guy actually in his neighborhood selling a 1972 3/4 ton chevy truck. He says it was kinda dark when he just went by it and it seemed in pretty decent shape and has a 454 in it. Says the guy wants 2200$ OBO, This might be my truck =)
